Show AN ATTEMPTED SUICIDE A Former Resident of this City in Serious Trouble in Denver Dr Franz Opper at one time a resident of this city and will be well remembered by certain people recently attempted suicide in Denver Dr Opper went to Denver from Wisconsin Wiscon-sin some three months ago He has been traveling around a good deal of late years his intemperate habits having stood much in the way of his success as a physician Ho opened an office in the Vinot block on the corner of south Tenth and Fourteenth avenue Despite the fact that the doctor made many warm friends and had influential backing alcoho hal fastened its fangs upon him and frequent prolonged sprees made his career as a physician a very unsatisfactory un-satisfactory one to his friends Ten days ago he started off on cu3 of tie hardest and longest runs at the cup with which he has ever indulged himself In order to secure more privacy he removed to the Raymond house and was from that time until yesterday yester-day in a permanent state of intoxication When one of the inmates of the house was in his room at 10 oclock the doctor seemed to be in his usual spirits in both senses Rctuming about 10 oclock he noticed no-ticed something strange about the doctors actions His eyes were glazed and he seemed to be falling into a stupor Dr Robertson was immediately summoned from the health office and he stated that the patient had taken an overdose of morphine mor-phine Dr Kallivoodcr and Dr Robertson worked over the man for a long time He was pretty far gone Electricity and other powerful remedies were used Under the sipplicatloji of these the patient grew better and talked quite rationally to the reporter late in the afternoon His brother was telegraphed tele-graphed to at a late hour last night and the room was filled during the evening with the friends of the very sick man It is impossible to tell from the statements state-ments made by the sick man whether he t ok an overdose of the drug by mistake or whether it was taken in a fit of alcoholic i i sanity The doctor has been suffering for a long time from insomnia and has been accustomed to the frequent use of morphine for relief Dr Opper is a man about fifty years of age with features of the most pronounced Serman type He is a tall man with broad shoulders and of powerful build |
