Show No Trouble About Sanilford Old Boy Special t THE HEUALD Examiner Dispatch WASHINGTON March TIf Senator Standford is not the Republican boss of California he is at least the supreme arbiter arbi-ter in ail matters relating to the distribution distribu-tion of patronage The delegation has had repeated meetings MI Washington during the past fortnight t consider how the federal offices could be divided among the patrons at home with the least possible friction The meetings as has been repeatedly repeat-edly stated have failed of their purpose I is not necessary to look for an explanation explana-tion Each Representative wanted a little more of the plunder than he was willing to concede to his fellows Under such circum oncce crcum f stances an agreement was entirely out of the question and at each adjournment the before members were no nearer a conclusion than MONOTANOrS TOOCEEDINGS The monotony of these proceedings grew tk last tiresome to Senator Stanford who lsA man of method and desirous of accomplishing accom-plishing results He therefore hit upon a plan which he has reason to hope will prove effective and which may be briefly explained ex-plained as follows Each Republican Representative Rep-resentative in the state has been requested to prepare a list of the gentlemen whom he desires should be appointed to the federal offices in his district Mr McKeuna from his knowledge of affairs in the second district will also prepare pre-pare that list while Senator Stanford who lives in San Francisco will make his own selections for the fifth district After the different lists have been prepared they will bo reform to Senator Stanford for revision re-vision I he approves of them they will stand if not they will be revised in ac cordancewith Senator Stanfords wishes eoranc In some cases the revision may only be partial par-tial I may take a wide range which may entirely change the face of the entire list t IN ANY EVENT NO AVPEAL But in no event is there any appeal from the Senators decision President Harrison chooses t regard him as the head and front of the Republican party iu California and his wish in every matter affecting the patronage pat-ronage will first be respected The delegation delega-tion are holding meeting at Senator Stan fords house this afternoon I is expected that each member will be present list in hand I is hoped too that this meeting will be final and that at its conclusion the long expected long deferred and greatly talked of slate will be prepared Unless radical char i arc made it will not materially mater-ially differ so far as the San Francisco of Sires are concerned from that heretofore riren in these dispatches It is evident however that Senator Stanford and his associates as-sociates have not entirely abandoned their hope of securing a foreign mission for L B Misner of Eunicia It is now proposed t send him to Guatemala the most progressive pro-gressive and civilized of the Central American Ameri-can republics AMEUICAN INTERESTS SOUTH American interests are largely represented repre-sented in the ISO miles c railway running through the republic and a those interests are mainly Californian in character it is 4 deemed advisable that a gentleman from that state should be selected to represent this government there It is not improbable improba-ble that Mr Misner may secure this mission mis-sion He will be strongly backed by the entire delegation for the place and President Presi-dent Harrison it is said regards him favorably fav-orably Representative Vandercr has rec comcnded Horace G Jacobson of Orange California t be superintendent of the new public building at Los Angeles Mr Jacobson Jacob-son was formerly chief clerk of the supervising super-vising architCts office in this city The I duties of his new position are entirely familiar fam-iliar and General Vandever regards his appointment ap-pointment as one of the best that could pos sliby be made slby mae |
