Show Apprprlatlotf Bills WASHINGTON March 5The aggc gate of the appropriation bills passed by the Fortyninth Congress 13 about 250000000 This total is exclusive of the sums appropriated by the river and harbor and deficiency appropriation bills which failed of enactment Appropriations Ap-propriations for the current fiscal year aggregate 264000 000 which amount would have been equalled by the appropriation I appro-priation voted by the last Congress had I the two bills mentioned becone law Some idea of the manner in wh ch the FortynimhC3Ojress wound up its work may be four in ihe declaration of a member of little experience that the record revealed the fact that one quarter of the legislative session had been enacted in tim last few legislative dars An enrolling clerK of twelve years experience said that never m that len th of time had he witnessed the haste exhibited in the last twenty four hours of the Congress which had just expired Enough papers to fill a half bushel basket all of them Presidential vetoes of House bills lay in a pile on the floor of the clerks office in the House wing of the capital this morning They number 101 in all By a recent order of the President the military reservationat Fort Calbille Washington Territory has ben transferred trans-ferred to the Department of the Interior for dispostion under the act of July 5th 1884 it beng no longer of useful military mili-tary purposes The agreement recent concluded between the West Indian commision OQ behalf of the government and the Indians of the great Blackfoat Reservation northern Montana has been received at the Indian bureau By its terms three seperate reservations res-ervations are set apart for permanent perman-ent homes for Indians One for the Fort Peck agency Indians another for the Belknap agency Indian and a third for the Indians of the Blackfoot agency each comprising an area of about 1200 square miles leaving an area estimated to contain about 17500000 acres of territory about three tunas larger than the State of Maryland which the Indians cede the United States in consideration of the following sums For the Fort Peck Indians In-dians 55C00 per annum forten years i forTort Belknap Indians 11000 per annum for thc same period for the Blackfoot agency Indians 150000 per annum for ten years Thesesums are to be expended under the direction of the Secretary of the Interiorfor the purchase of stock for breeding purposes pur-poses subsistence clothing and otherwise other-wise for the confort and civilization of i the Indians It is believed by the commission that the compensation agreed upon is fair and equitable and sufficient to place them in a position to speedily become selfsupportme rc further aid quire no government Q Only four of the presidents nominations nomi-nations made daring the sessicxr just closed were rendered by the Senate as follows J C MathewsofAlbany to be receiver of deeds of the District of Columbia JDbsrlea W Irish Indiana to be surveyorgeneral of Nevada Charles E Daileyo be register of the land office at Tuscon A T Oliver Shannon to be receiver of pnblic moneys at North Platte The following is the list of nominations nomina-tions which remained unacted upon therefore died when the session ended J S Brooks United States Attorney for the Southern District of California registers of the land office James MAdams M-Adams at Spokane Falls W T W M Blame Blackfoot Idaho f 5 < THAT MEXICAN OUTRAGE The HotHo dc2d GiOisers JTorolbly St Down On NOGALES Arizona Maich Governor Gov-ernor Torres of Sonora Mexico and staff accompanied by Colonel Aryizu airitedthis morning from Hsrmoiilo Governor Torres on learning of the particulars of the affair of Thursday censured the Mexican Consul Senor Labodie in unmeasured terms for not delivering up Lieutenant Giuettercz who led the soldiers in the attack on the Americana to the American authorities au-thorities immediately Colonel Arvizu in ordei to cigar himself stated to the Governor that the Americans were in faIt whereupon the Governor s < Id Tae mereans were not in fait They I were in Mexico fighting you What business had your soldiers in the I United States The Governor is highly indignant at the action of the Ie cal Mexican authorities on learning that Senor Vasques chiel of the Mexican Mexi-can police had been removed for refusing refus-ing totake a hand against the Americans Ameri-cans Ho immediately reinstated him He was ordered to take force of men to secure Lieutenant Guietterez and turn himover to the United States authorities au-thorities The chief thereupon dis pa caed ten men on horseback fully armed to scour the country and bring Guietterez dead or alive This it is believed will prevent further trouble |
