Show A Remarkable Occurrence i NEW YORH March 5Washing ton Irving Bishop the famous mindTeader gave a peculiarly trying test of his powers this afternoon at the Hoffman House in the presence of members mem-bers of the press theatrical profession lawyers doctors and others He borrowed a brooch from Mrs Frank Leslie whieh he gave to a committee of four gentlemen previously chosen from the audience telling them to conc alt al-t any where within a mile of the hotel The committee drove off in a carriage returning after half an hoars absence Bishop was thenblindfolded This was done by tying cotton batting around his eyes Then ablack flag was put over his head and fastened in around his nack A twoseated open carriage was waiting the door aad in this Mr Bishop and three membersot the committee took seals and Bishop took the reins and drove through the great crowd of people and rvehi les guiding the horses with remarkable dexterity ccnsidering that he couldnt use his eyes He drove over a devious route and just near the southeast south-east corner of the Gsamercy Park stopped the vehicle and alighted the committee following A large crowd had ran after tha wagon all the way from the Hoffman House and Bishop had hard work to get through the throng that flocked about him He crossed the street and proceeded pro-ceeded along east of Gramercy Park until he reached the entrance to Gram ercy Park Hotel which he turned without hesitation walked into arootn > and placed his hand on a vase which rested on the table He had hishand there for a few seconds and then requested re-quested that the vase be removed His wish was complied with and he picked the brooch up from theUablo where it had been left by the committee |
