Show HE RETURNED THE RING A Lively Little Racket Kept Out of the Courts Just before the departure of the Utah Central train yesterday a youth with a pale face and considerable real estate dangling to his person rushed into the depot yard rapidly surveyed the scene and then suddenly pounced upon another youth of about the same age who was evidently ready to leave for the north There was a hurried consultation con-sultation between the two both of whom appeared to be so badly frightened fright-ened as to be hardly able to speak One No I of them was heard to say cant go back you know because I must go off on this train but Ill send her a written apology if that will do With shaking limbs and agitated manner man-ner the other hastily replied No it wont do what you have got to do is to come with me and mako a personal per-sonal apology Then followed a long wrangle and a subsequent appeal to a bvstandcr to call a policeman Then more excited talk and then a frantic effort by the detained yonth to get aboard the train No you dont said the assailant you dont leave this town until you have returned and made a most ample and satisfactory apblogy for your blauketyblank conduct Tiure was the usual all aboard the regulation whistle and the train 1 steamed out leaving the two disputants still in eager consultation consulta-tion A few seconds after they both vanished up the Street and quietness quiet-ness again reigned The reason for this exciting little episode that brightened bright-ened the depot for a few brief moments was the fact that both youths had been payipg their attention to the same fair one The one about to depart j eater day morning it seems had visited his charmer on Sunday and on her lily white hand he spied what had a worse effect upon him than a red flag shaken in front of a hull It was no less than an engagement ring which had been placed there the evening previous by his rival He had shaken hands at parting on Sunday evening and taken the ring with him As no names appeared ap-peared on the Police Court slate last evening it is presumed that the jilted youth made ample and satisfactory apologies Our informant did not know who the parties were but said that for a ime at least the prospectsfor the shed Tig of gore were extremely good |
