Show The Twentj First Ward The Twenty first Ward meeting house ws on Thursday night the scene of one of the most In testing and impressive even of Its history dis Unwished even as it has already been I was fll ed to its utmost capacity by a most Intel gent and attentive audience who evinced no sign of weariness even at a late hour so great is the interest in and the sympathy for the Peoples cause In the Twenty first Ward politics knows no sex male or female the ladies are though de prh cd of the franchise as intensely patriot as the more fortunate sexman and as valiant for the right as ever were the Spartan mothers In addition to the large audience present were Lieutenant R W Young and E G Voolley of the Central Municipal committee Councilor J Fewson Smith just returned from the south principals of the respective organizations and of the ladies committee etc President M S Woolley occupied the chair Mr Josiah Burrows gave a graphic touching and eloquent history of the pioneers their journey jour-ney across the plains and arrival In the great Salt Lai valley Next in order was the presentation from the ladies of the ward First A handsome white silk banner which unfortunately was not finished in consequence of the great pressure of work on the hands of those employed by the Peoples party I was presented to the political politi-cal club by Mrs Elizabeth McFarland with an eloquent earnest and hope inspiring address responded to by President M S Woolley in tho same fen ant spirit pledging himself that the emblems there depicted should be sacredly guarded SecondTo the drill corps a flag of the Union as an indicator of their principles and policy 1z liberty and justice to all presented by Mrs C V Smith who in a patriotic address charged them as free men born under the flag who had broken no law betrayed no trust and made no treasonable vows to honor their country and her flag and by their loyalty and patriotism win the confidence of the nation Responded to by W Vt Colder Jr who said the corps appreciated the responsibility and the honor conferred upon them bj the presentation and pledged themselves the fag should suffer no humiliation while in their keeping that as a corps they would by example and influence maintain Ian and good order Next flag of the Union to the martial band by Mrs Alice Smithwho said that though young and unable to do much for the cause they could use their best gift music to inspire those who could Responded to Captain John Gunn who I a brief manner expressed the fond appreciation ap-preciation of the gift Three cheers were then heartily given for the banner the flags and those who had contributed contribu-ted t them Lieut R W Young and Hon E G Woolloy made very appropriate and interesting remarks re-marks Mr Robert Avedson gave the campaign budget bud-get with his original droller which drew forth convulsive peals of laughter and withal The Banner ward sustained reputation J FEWSON SMITH Secretary Jn |
