Show FARMERS ALLIANCE An Amalgamation with the Knights of Labor THE CRONIN CASE ARGUMENTS What Hynes Says of the Irish Belgians Deputies Depu-ties Create a Scene Twelve Days from Yokohama Copper ST Locis Dec 6This morning Pow derly Wright and Beaumont representing the Knights of Labormet The demands of the committee of the Farmers and Labor ersunion and federation werelagreed upon It was agreed that the Farmers should appoint ap-point a legislative committee of two to act in conjunction with the legislative committee of the Knights at Washington to secure legislation in accordance with the views of both bodies The officers of the two organizations will form a central council The various Farmers bodies have agreed upoe a plan of consolidation which will as soon as the necessary reference can be had to the various state organizations organiza-tions result in bringing about an absolute union It is probable that in time the Knights will also join the Farmers in actual act-ual union The National Farmers alliance adopted a long series of resolutions favoring woman suffrage the reservation of the public land for actual settlers against the acquisition acqui-sition of lands by aliens for a rigid enforcement en-forcement of the law against railroad corporations corpor-ations not complying with the contracts as to the disposition of lands calling for the free coinage of gold and silver favoring the payment of the public debt as rapidly as possible reiterating the argument against the national bank system and in favor of the greenback doctrine Taxes on real estate mortgages and a graded income tax are demanded the liquor traffic is opposed op-posed in all forms a deep harbor on the gulf coast is endorsed recommending Con gross to compel the Union Pacific and Con tal Pacific railroads pay their debts and objecting to any further extension of time The Australian system of voting was enthusiastically en-thusiastically endorsed The resolution jn the tariff is as follows Resolved We favor such a revision and reduction of the tariff that taxes may rest as lightly as possible pos-sible upon productive labor and that its burdens may be imposed upon the luxuries of life and in a manner which will prevent he continued accumulation in the United States of a surplus The proceedings of todays session of he Farmers and Laborers union and Northern alliance were devoted almost exclusively ex-clusively to the discussion of amalgama ion and a revision of the constitution Many conferences were held between the committees of the union and the Northern alliance with representatives of the Knights of Labor The result is a confederation confeder-ation of the Farmers and Laborers union with the Knights of Labor and there will be > a union of the northern and southern bodies of the Farmers The following offi ers were elected President L L Polk of North Carolina vicepresident D H Clover Kansas secretary J H Turner Georgia treasurer WilliamHickmanGeor gin national lecturer F P Benjamin Terrell Texas |
