Show A LIBELER San Francisco has at least one man who is in the wrong place His name is C R i BEXXETT and he is secretary of the society i for tliejprevention of vice We say he is in the Wrong place for lying is a vice and Mr BEXXETT seems to be a reckless unconscionable un-conscionable malignant liar He has recently been to Omaha to prosecute a man arrested for sending obscene letters through the mails to officials of the Southern South-ern Pacific railway company On his return re-turn he went to the Examiner office and unburdened un-burdened himself in the following strain y u I spent several days in each of the large clues along my return route for the express purpose of ascertaining their condition In regard to vice eansJs city is a wonderfully clean city There are literally no contraband pictures sold there Denver Is in bad condition and I was offered every possible Inducement all the financial and moral backing necessary to start a branch Society So-ciety for the Prevention of Vice there If the society here will permit it I may go to Denver Salt Lake city is absolutely rotten The vilest of publications are sold almost everywhere and in some cases almost without an attempt at con cealmett The town is flooded with what Is known as the Vienna microscopic photographs and it Is a common thing to see young men wearing watch charms fitted with these obscene portraits while every hoodlum has a knife the rivets of which contain one or more of these Vienna pictures But there Is a chance for the better coming The night I was In Salt Lake city 120X Gentiles paraded the streets and on every hand it Is said that in February next Mormonism will be forever uprooted If Mr BENNETTS words regarding Kansas Kan-sas City and Denver are no nearer the truth than are his statements concerning Salt Lake then the firstnamed place is the foulest on the continent and Denver is purity itself for what the fellow says of this city is simply and emphatically an outrageous falsehood It is doubted that there is a city of this size in America which is cleaner in respect to the things referred to than Salt Lake Mr BENNETT drew from his imagination entirely for his facts as to the sale of vile pictures and publications publica-tions and obscene portraits just as he did for the nu E ber of the people in the Gentile Gen-tile procession The Liberals claimed but 1500 for their procession and were satisfied when others admitted there were 1000 But Mr BENNETT multiplies the number by twelve and he must have multiplied the obscene pictures by at least the same number But the impudent part of his statement is the charging of the obscenity which he discovered to the Mormons and giving the nonMormons credit for an intention to suppress vice when Gentiles and Mormons Mor-mons alike will say that if he saw any vile pictures they were in possession of Liberals and if he saw evidences of vice they were shown by others than members I ef the Mormon church The San Francisco society need expect to accomplish little good with such a man for its acting and active agent |
