WORK B W McCullough general passenger passen-ger agent of the Texas Pacific is in possession of a ticket that shows some artistic work by a San Atonio scalper It is a limited ticket over the Texas Pacifio from flew Orleans to San Antonio and return stamped in the former city in the latter part of 1887 It fell into the hands of a San Antonio An-tonio scalper and expired before he could get rid of it But not to get left the scalper aoroitly erased the figure 7 on the back of it so it would appear 188anything He then got the contract con-tract end of a Missouri Pacific ticket and pasted it in place of the old contract con-tract which had run out by limitation Thus overhauled the ticket would pass for a genuine one with any inexf erienced person and m such a person a purchaser pur-chaser was found But the first conductor con-ductor to whom it was presented on the International Great Northern happened to be experienced and he refused re-fused to honor it and took it up Mr McCullough says the scalper who overhauled over-hauled the ticket is an artist of the first rank Mr McCuIIough said he had been looking at it off and on all day and still was not thoroughly on to the combination SALT LAKE VALLEY 4 EASTERN Theproposed railway from Salt Lake City to Sioux City Iowa is now spokn of as an assured enterprise with a syndicate behind it which proposes to complete the entire line within the next two years The line is divided into three corporations known as the Salt Lake Valley Eastern the Wyoming and Western Railway companies When these companies were incorporated incor-porated much gossip was indulged in concerning the prubablerelations of the project to some one of the big western systems The report that was generally acepted as the most plausible and which was industriously circulated until an official denial checked its career was ono placing the responsibility responsi-bility on the Illinois Central peopl and designating the proposed railway rail-way as an extension of the Illinois Central line from Sioux City aero s Nebraska to the Wyoming coalfields i coal-fields and probably to Denver It is now understood that the projected road is not connected with any oi the I great railway companies but is an entirely en-tirely independent line to be constructed and operated with the idea of exchang ing business with all other son s-on an equal basis of proportional amounts furnished to them by the road Construction has been c m menced on the Salt Lake Valley Eastern division and is to be pushed with great energy to an farly completion comple-tion The company promises that fuel from fields in Wyoming will be marketed in Salt Lake City within a few months No one in Laramie expects ex-pects the main line to strike this city but it is quite likely a branch or spur will bo constructed from the main line to this point but whether snch is toe case or not the building of the road will be of immense value to the tern tort and what adds to the advancement advance-ment of Wyoming cannot prove other than beneficial to iiar mie Boomerang li Speaking of tbe same project the San Francisco Call says a prominent engineer engin-eer of that city need this language The name of the Central Pacifio has been frequently associated with this project It is not considered likely that Messrs Stanford Huntington and Crocker would be blind to the advantages advan-tages of a line which would give the Central Pacific independent connection with the Missouri and Mississippi River region It is well known that both the Union Pacific and the Northwestern Northwest-ern line have decided to build into this Sate Surveyors attached to the engineering en-gineering departments of both these roads have been seen at work on the Sierras The available routes have all been staked out months ago Should the Union Pacific build into California the Central would only have the Denver Bio Grande as an em tern reader President Presi-dent A a ns
