Show MORE PARDONS The Kentucky Governors have gained an unenviable reputation for pardoning criminals from the Penitentiary It is difficult enough in the Blue Grass State to convict a man and get him into the pen but it is no trouble to get him out Missouris late Governor who was a Kentuckian followed the example of his own States executives and turned criminals out bythe score he went even farther and agreed with the scoundrels before they were tried or arrested that they should notbe bepunished Our own GovernorMnrray who is a Kentuckian and half brother of the Missouri man referred to is following in the footsteps of Kentucky Governors The I newspapers report that Murray has turned loose another batch of convicts i con-victs some of whom are represented as hard characters and the guilt of some of them was undoubted In view of the ease with which a murderer burglar or thief can obtain pardon of His Excellency Excel-lency the bad element which Murray has so much sympathy and affection will probably be bolder than in the past knowing that conviction will be followed by early release no matter what their crimes j and officers will soon become tired of hunting wrongdoers knowing that the Governor will nullify the law I and make a farceof justice j |
