Show THE CHEAPER postage question is I again before Congress and the country coun-try and there is some prospect that it will soon receive the consideration considera-tion that its importance demands A bill has been reported to the House by the committee on post offices and post reads to reduce the rate on first class mail matter to two cents per half ounce and one cent for etch adlitioial half ounce The committee believes and rightly that a reduction of postage will not lessen the revenues but increase in-crease coirespondence to make up for the falling off Experience in this and every othpr country has taught that this method of reasoning is correct The reduction temporarily tempor-arily dimishes the rtceipts but the increase in business soon more than offsets any deficiency But even should government lose by reducing reduc-ing postage rate the public money could not be expended in a manner that would be more satisfactory or more beneficial Jo the people |
