Show l + n i I CHANGES AND improvements are I constantly being made in the methods I meth-ods of conducting the schools but the Troy and Rochester schools f r I have just made changes which it is Ii I i not certain are improvements The f I customary recess has been abolished I j t l abol-ished and the pupils given a longer II 1 i time at noon enabling them to go r f home and get warm meals The I It trustees say the recess is wasted in 1 i rl unprofitable gossip and is produc i uv e or evil rather than good Any I j body who has ever attended school I I II knows that the hours from 0 oclock i < until noon are long and wearisome n I even with the five or ten minutes I I recess They are too long n fact for children to ° I fI 1 be restrained without active recreation i i i i recre-ation If bad results from theplay i recess inaugurate a system of gymnastics l R 1 i 1 gym-nastics which relieves the mind f L it f and stimulates the mind to healthy ± activity without exhausting or even i s wearying the little people We i would increase the midsession play time especially in the primary f i schools rather than shorten it 1 |
