Show Meeting: Improving Children Relations On April 13, 1977, Melvyn L. Bennett will speak to the parents who are interested in improving their relationships with their children by active listening and understanding. MR. BENNETT will be speaking at the local chapter meeting for the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities. The meetings are held at J. A. Taylor Elementary School, 295 E. Pages Lane, Centerville at 7:30p.m. - Mr. Bennett's topic is how to listen to our children to pick up their real feelings. Sometimes people encode their language to cover up their feelings and active listening lis-tening means hearing and understanding real feelings. MR. BENNETT will present ways for us to give "1 messages" so our children won't feel blamed when their behavior is unacceptable to us. One of Mr. Bennett s professional memberships is to Effectiveness Training, Inc., in which he is a certified instructor for Parent Effectiveness Effec-tiveness Training, PET, Teacher Effectiveness Training, Train-ing, TET, and H.E.T., L E T. and S.L.E.T. CURRENTLY, he is teaching a Parent Effectiveness Effec-tiveness Training class in the South Davis area from Dr. Thomas Gordin's book. "Parent Effectiveness Training Train-ing " Mr Bennett received his B A and M A. degrees from Brigham Young University. Since 1973, he has been employed by Intermountain Health Care, Inc. (formerly Health Services Corporation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) as director of Management Education. THE TOPIC of active listening lis-tening is an important one for all relationships, but it is particularly helpful to the parent or teacher of a learning learn-ing disabled child. Mr Bennett will have a question and answer period following the presentation. |
