Show OGDEN OCCURRENCES tap The Memorial Day Services Other Sights and Scenes in the Junction City Special Correspondence OGDEN May 30 1884 J Decoration Day was observed herein here-in grand style notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather Thrc e coaches well filled with excursionists excursion-ists mostly from Salt Lake arrived here by the 9 am express At 930 the procession formed in front of Castle HaP in the Peery block and wag composel as follows Ogden Brass Band Knights of Pythias 1 Grand Army of the Republic Rfd I I Men Odd Fellows Firs Brigade I Fourth Ward Band and numerous i citlzsna in carriages r THE PROCESSION I marched north as far as Second f street thence east to Smith Etreet j thence north to the cemetery entering en-tering at the southeast gate and I proceeding to the graves of Charles gtepheoson and William Gale wbn a halt was made and appropriate 1 propriate services were hell consisting con-sisting of speeches music by the band decorating the graves with flowers etc At the conclusion of the services the procession marched back to the place of starting start-ing the Fourth Ward Band leading and the Ogden Band bringing up in the rear Hundreds or citizens were at the cemetery decorating the graves of the departed ones BASE BALL I At Lester Park a match game of base ball took place between the telegraph operators and a picked nine It was toa onesided to be considered inrerestIn the operators being badly left by a score of 9 to 34 RACES The attendance at the Driving Park was large the weather clearing clear-ing up eomewhat FIrat raceTrotting 245 class two startera Ashtons Robby and John Dees Billy J First heat was won by Robby time 255 Second heat by Billy J time 305 Ihird heat by Billy J time 302 Fourth heat by Billy J time 3 09 > Second race Sunning half mile twostarteraSanfords Johnny Sanford and William Carrolls Orphan Girl first heat won by Orphan Girl time 55 second and third atE Johnny Sanford time II 5455 j In ra match foot race between I Frank Morley and McAllister Morley carried off the honors ACCIDENT As Orphan Gin and Johnny Sanford > San-ford were rurning their last heat and after they had passed the grandstand grand-stand Orphan Girl stumbled and fell badly injuring her rider Charlie Carroll son of the owner of the animal It is not known at this writing whether the injuries will prove fatal or not as the boy was taken home unconscious JUNCTION |
