' LOTS OF DANCERS Th? newly formed Bountiful Area Dance Club held their first dance Friday, Nov. 2 in the 26th Ward Cultural Hall. An overflow crowd of 120 couples attended. THE EVENING began at 8 p.m. with an hour dance instruction ins-truction from Randy Bishop who demonstrated new and standard dance steps to some 100 couples who arrived for the instruction. The idea for the Bountiful Area Dance Club originated with Tess Williams, a high councilor in the Bountiful Heights Stake. Tess, as chairman of the Stake Activities; Activi-ties; Committee, recognized the need for a planned dance activity for married couples. IN ORDER to generate the financial support needed to provide live music for the dances it was determined that the club should be a regional activity with eight or nine stakes involved. Two dance club veterans, Allen and Uol-die Uol-die Van Dyke, who reside in the stake, were asked to organize or-ganize the club. It soon became evident to the Van Dykes that the interest in a dance club weni beyond the boundaries of the region and permission was obtained ti extend the club to include all of the Bountiful area. : SIX DANCES were slated for the current winter social season with dances scheduled in the Bountiful 26th Ward, the Orchard Fifth Ward and the Bountiful East 17th Ward and Bountiful First Ward. The dances are calendared for the first Friday in each month with dance instruction at 8 p.m. and the dance at 9 p.m. Roland's Combo provided The new Bountiful Area Dance Club fills the hall for their first dance of the season held at the Bountiful 26th Ward Nov. 2. music for the Nov. 2 dance and played a lively program of swing, waltz, fox trot, cha-cha, cha-cha, rumba, samba and of course the "Alley Cat." ALLEN AND Goldie Van Dyke report that the success of the dance club certainly indicates a desire and a need for an adult social activity such as this in the Bountiful area. The Bountiful Area Dance Club is LDS sponsored. However, it was conceived and organized to be an area social activity open to any adult couple desiring to join. The dances are all semi-for mal dress-up with LDS standards stan-dards pertaining to dress, alcoholic al-coholic beverages and smoking maintained. The next dance is scheduled for Dec. 7 in the 26th Ward. If it becomes necessary to move the dance to a larger hall the club membership will be notified no-tified by phone or letter. |
