Hayward, a Bountiful Boun-tiful namesake, was cited recently by the South Davis Chamber of Commerce for his many years in "community service of helping others." THE CHAMBER of Commerce Com-merce executive director announced an-nounced he is retiring from the Chamber's head office to devote more time with his family and for extensive travel. Mr. Hayward has been active ac-tive in civic affairs for more than 40 years and has been honored with life memberships mem-berships in several civic organizations. or-ganizations. IN 1971 he was awarded a life membership into the South Davis Chamber of Commerce, the first ever awarded by the local Chamber. Mr. Hayward was born in Circieville, Utah, but moved to Lynn Bradford, left, president of the Bountiful Area Chamber of Commerce, presented a special plaque of honor to Aldin O. Hayward during the regular meet last week. Mrs. Hayward flanks her husband. hus-band. Mr. Hayward retired as executive director of the Chamber. Bountiful when 17 years of age. He married Etta Johansen in the Manti Temple on Sept. 15, 1926 and last year the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary. anniver-sary. THE SAME year as his marriage, Aldin and his brother, Coy, became the first to own anO.P. Skaggs Store in the Salt Lake City area. They later opened stores in Layton, Bountiful and in Pocatello, Rupert and Blackfoot, Idaho. Later the two moved back to Bountiful to open a market under their own name and in 1952 at the Grocers' convention in Chicago, the Hayward Market was recognized as having the "largest volume of business per square foot of any market west of the Mississippi." Mississip-pi." IN JUNE 1957, he was appointed ap-pointed by the governor as one of the five original commissioners commis-sioners to form the Utah State Parks and Recreation Commission. Com-mission. Four years later he was named director of the Utah State Parks and Recreation Recrea-tion Commission. He is former president of the Bountiful Lions Club with a perfect attendance record spanning more than 30 years. He also served as zone chair man, deputy district governor and district governor. AS PRESIDENT of the South Davis Senior Citizens, he has spent numerous hours raising funds for the Senior Citizens' building presently under construction. "I'm going to spend more time with my family (he has six daughters) and enjoy traveling, but I'm going to miss this association I've had with people because that's what I enjoy most," he said. "SERVING THE community com-munity and mankind is a very gratifying experience, especially when you get deeply involved as I have done over the years. Most important, enjoy en-joy your friendships with one another," he concluded. |
