BRAD Orgill of the : South Davis Fire Department : said the house, owned by Pat -1 Becker, was valued at $10,000 f and the contents at $20,000. He ": said the house was a "total . loss" and could not estimate what percentage of the con-- tents could be salvaged. Twenty-three South Davis volunteer firemen responded to the blaze, with the first pumper and rescue truck reaching the fire four minutes after the alarm sounded at 12:54 p.m., Lt. Orgill said. ALTHOUGH five vehicles were on the scene, only two : pumpers were used to extin-guish extin-guish the fire which was : under control in about one :: hour, Lt. Orgill said. "We : were hampered in putting out . the fire by the false ceiling . and the many additions to the house." "It was necessary to cut holes in the ceiling to reach the fire." The fire department reported no injuries although Mrs. Becker was in the house when the fire started. She told firemen that she heard something fall in the utility room. LT. ORGILL said the fire was caused when a flammable flamma-ble liquid in the utility room ignited. Fireman were not sure what the incendiary agent was. No injuries resulted result-ed from the fire, Lt. Orgill said. The fire was brought under control in one hour although two more hours were needed to put out the spot fires. THE FIRST pumper to arrive was directed by Assistant Assis-tant Fire Chief Bruce Bow-didge. Bow-didge. The final pumper arrived at 1:02, eight minutes after the alarm sounded. Lt. Orgill said that although the , ambulance and rescue truck were on the scene, they were not needed, rk Twenty-three volunteer firemen from the South Davis Fire Department put out a fire at this two-story house in Centerville. Firemen had to chop through the roof to reach the fire which was smoldering in the false ceiling that had been added to the house. |
