possible sible characters and ancl in the hands of a capable company such as appeared at the Salt Lake theatre last night It is filled with interest from the first act to the thelast thelast thelast last four acts of splendid situations The play pIny is as strong as The Lion and the Mouse by the same author and shows allows the versatility of Charles Klein as a dra dramatic dramatic matic writer i Through it all there stands out prominently the story of a II womans devotion and for the love of ofa ofa ofa a man In the hands of such a capable artist as Fernande Eliscu the character of Annie Jeffries loses nothing She has the audience with her from the start and was compelled to respond to several cur curtain curtain tain tam calls Nor was she alone in her act actIng actIng acting Ing The company is a on one and each member is worthy the highest praise It is well to particularise in the case of Miss Ml s Eliscu because around the character she sustains is woven almost the entire entice story a womans devotion a love that is pure and holy even in the face of seeming insurmountable obstacles The house was a splendid tribute to the tile company the public seeming to under understand author author author thor and star has originality and an un unusual unusual Unusual usual bump of humor and his present production is quite out of the ordinary Originality is not rare in vaudeville and the course ourse taken by Mr Devoy in giving an elaborate setting for a II former vaude vaudeville vaudeville ville yule success might m ht if followed oftener lessen the number of frightful stupidities that crowd the stage today The piece has a new sort of wit and is not only clever cleer but is cleverly presented It has a plot or at least a connected purpose not common to this sort Of Some startling scenic and electrical effects are ar alone worth the price of admission and the production is on a most moet elaborate scale Mr Devoy is as excellent In his part as star as he was in originating the play He is intelligent and possesses real hu humor humor humor mor which is wholly holly different from the horseplay of many of the come dies This is 18 Mr first appear ance in the stellar roles outside of vaude ville yule and it is to be hoped that he has come into his own He was ably sup ported by a capable capa le company compan His clever fun tun was seconded by b William
