The Earls bought the house '"rom the Joseph William 'raamily, who purchased it "I'rom the original builder, tall.M. Duel. The age of the leouse is known exactly enruecause on the southern side uke if the structure, near the Saves, Mr. Duel chiseled his efulbame and the construction bfkate: "O.M. Duel-1878 A.D." s. nniMR. EARL says that the cfciome is listed on the State a Register of Historic sites and at (iany tourists pass by and stop t,e!o take pictures of the two- tory stone structure. Included Includ-ed in the landscaping are a ycamore and maple tree, xated west of the house. M rs. ZYarl isn't sure how old the J"rees are but they were large i-ees when the Earls moved I Into the house 25 years ago. J Three or four pine trees in I he yard, which had been more ecently planted, were uproot- id during a strong east wind, mt Mrs. Earl said the old trees itood unperturbed. THE WALLS which are two eet thick, provide protection rom the weather. In the Summer the house never gets lot and Mrs. Earl says an air .onditioner is not needed. All he wood is original, although much of it has been repainted. All of the wood was varnished. This 100-year old Centerville house built by O. M. Duel in 1878 will celebrate its birthday this year. The stone for the construction came out of the canyons. Brick quoins at the four corners are unique to the house. |
