BERMAN'S virtuosity ill be displayed in a varied ibrogram which includes Shostakovich's Ten Preludes, 'Opus 34; Beethoven's Sonata 5W0. 23 in F minor, Opus 57 Apassionata); Scriabin's fantasy in B minor, Opus 28; I 'tnd Prokofiev's Sonata No. 8 Jjjn B flat Major, Opus 84. 4 An artist of strong individuality, in-dividuality, Mr. Berman in he last few years has become ine of the most sought-after lind highly praised solo per-Jormers per-Jormers on the international oncert scene. He was catapulted ca-tapulted to fame following his 'irst American tour in January-February 1976. He received his education at the Central Children's School and later studied at the Moscow Conservatory with the distinguished disti-nguished pedagogue Alek- sander Goldenweiser. 'M SHORTLY after his graduation, Mr. Berman ""began entering international f competitions, winning first prize in Berlin, third prize in Lazar Berman, Russian pianist, will perform per-form with the Utah Symphony. Budapest, and the Laureate title of the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels. He subsequently performed throughout the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Mr. Berman toured Japan for the first time last September Sep-tember where he had a triumphal reception. He returns re-turns to America in 1978 and 1979 for another extensive tour of the United States.
