Show Funeral Services Held For Moses Willard Andrus Who Died Here Dec. 12th Bishop Grant Whitehead conducted conduc-ted funeral services in the St. George stake Tabernacle Monday, Dec. 15, at 2:30 p.m., for Moses Willard Andrus, 72, who died at the family home at 4:50 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, of cerebral hemorrhage hem-orrhage following a lingering ill ness. Mrs. Mae A. Pace presided at the organ and accompanied the music numbers which included two quartets "Lead Kindly Light", "Lead Me Gently Home", by Leland Le-land Lamoreaux, Marion Bowler, Mary Lou Schmutz and Melba I Baker, and two duets, "Beyond i the Stars", and "There Is A i Land", by Mamie Paxman and 1 Viola Gentry. : Speakers At Services Speakers were Albert E. Miller, Wallace B. Mathis and Dr. W. J. ' Reichman. Mr. Miller told of his close association with the deceased L throughout his life, of his trust-r trust-r worthiness, his ownership of fine . horses and his skillfulness in farm work and highway work. He also told of their associated experiences experi-ences in various public activities, . especially in connection with coun- ty fairs and stock exhibits, and t paid tribute to Mr. Andrus for his friendliness and honesty in his work. Andrus Funeral (Continued from first page) acquainted with Mr. Andrus since they were boys, in connection with farming and cattle raising and knew intimately of his great capacity ca-pacity for work, his ability to provide pro-vide for his family the good things of life. He paid tribute to Mr. Andrus' parents; and especially to his father, Capt. James Andrus with whom he had ridden the cattle range as a young man. He praised the deceased for his constructive con-structive criticisms which often promoted corrections of undesirable undesir-able civic situations and conditions. condi-tions. Dr. Reichman said this man expressed ex-pressed the spirit of cleanliness and neatness. As a stranger in the community he was impressed with the fine horses driven by Mr Andrus and had found in visiting vis-iting the home that he was filled j with the gospel of work and his premises bespoke of wholesome surroundings and his civic pride. Even after blindness forced him to less activity, he still took interest in-terest in doing what he could to keep his property attractive, and impressed his associates with his accomplishments along this line. Prayers were by Lorenzo Leav-itt Leav-itt and W. W. McArthur and the grave in the St. George city cemetery ceme-tery was dedicated by James McArthur. Mc-Arthur. Born In St. George Born in St. George April 7 1869 Mr. Andrus was a son of Capt. James Andrus, famed scout of early pioneer activities, and Manomas Lavinia Gibson Andrus. Until he was a grown man the family spent much of their time at the Canaan ranch, where he assisted his father with their cattle business. Winters they were in St. George where he obtained his public schooling, later attending attend-ing the Brigham Young university. On Nov. 5, 1891, he married Elizabeth Orpha Morris, in the St. George Temple and they have since made their home in St. George, where he engaged in freighting, stock raising and farming. farm-ing. He has always been known for the fine draft horses he has owned and driven, having done much . work with these when horse-drawn equipment was used in highway improvement. He has always maintained an active interest in civic improvement improve-ment and served for eight years as a road supervisor in Washington Washing-ton county. He has also done much rock and timber hauling for the school buildings in St. George prior to the time of truck freighting. freight-ing. Mr. Andrus' Survivors Surviving besides his widow are six of their seven children including includ-ing three daughters, Orpha A. Lund, Paula A. Mathis and Mary A. Worthen, all of St. George; and three sons, Moses Willard Andrus Jr., of San Francisco; Bishop Richard Andrus, of Belle, Calif.; and Bishop James Andrus, of St. George, 18 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: A. B. Andrus, Charles ' Andrus, Vilate A. Wadsworth, Pearl Andrus Morris, all of St. George; Mrs. Thamizan Lund, and Gideon Andrus of Los Angeles. |
