Show Prof erred For Manila Soldier to Australian Meat. Washington, May 13. The commissary commis-sary department bas beea asked if it cannot supply the army in tho Philippines Philip-pines with American beef instead of th. Australian beef which has been purchased heretofore. While there li no doubt that Ameri- ! can beef is somewhat better than that of Australia, at present there are not facilities for transporting and handling hand-ling beef from this country. The beef supplied to the army in the Philippines Philip-pines is taken there in the navy refrigerator re-frigerator supply-ships, and is kept in the ship until such time as it is required. re-quired. In return the army furnishes the navy supplies out of the commis-rary commis-rary stores. Until the proposed refrigerator plants on board the army transports are completed, com-pleted, it is probable that the beef supply for the Philippines will come from Australia. |
