Show THREATS OF WARDNER MINERS. Open Clash with Military Authorities In Coeur d'Alenes May Occur. Wallace, Idaho, May 16. The order against employing union miners in any of the mines here without a permit per-mit from the military authorities, goes into effect this week, and many people expect a clash between the miners and the troops. The miners are still nursing their wrath and the more radical are breathing defiance. If organized resistance to the military authorities occurs bloodshed will follow, fol-low, as the authorities are thoroughly in earnest. The fact that many of the troops have been withdrawn within with-in the past few days has emboldened some of the men. The miners have plenty of ammunition and are well armed. In case of trouble an attempt will probably be made to liberate the men under arrest, which would result in a pitched battle. Governor Steunenberg, Attorney-General Attorney-General Hayes, Secretary of State Pa-trie Pa-trie and Treasurer Rice are here assisting as-sisting in the apprehension of men suspected of being connected with the blowing up of the Bunker Hill-Sullivan Hill-Sullivan mill and watching developments. develop-ments. Attorney-General Hayes will remain here until the trials are over. As there are more than a thousand men under arrest, and more are sought, and as separate trials will be demanded for many of them it is impossible im-possible to predict when the trials will end. The searching investigation being made by Coroner France, which will continue throughout the week, tends to keep the miners agitated and belig-gerent. belig-gerent. It is generally believed that the miners in Canyon creek can not be replaced re-placed by non unionmen, as the people peo-ple are universally in sympathy with the miners. A long shut-down of all the mines is probable. |
