Show ' '& ... a- s ; One of the most important impor-tant facets of the program for these competing young ladies is their service project which each is required to do. The judges look closely at the ideas the girls come up with to try to help others. The girls have to report back what their project was, why they chose it, and what the results were. It is important to remember re-member that these young women are not professionals profession-als in what they do. They are learning and in the process they are helping others. The Miss Pleasant Grove Pageant is important not only to the girls, but to those they help with their service project. In the olden days, prior to about 1980, the girls did not do a service project such as this. The project became a requirement later on and by Marcella Walker The Strawberry Days Queen-Miss Pleasant Grove selection will be made this weekend. There are I I young ladies trying out for this title and they are all hoping to be the winner announced at the end of the rigorous tryouts. For over more than 30 years I have been watching this event take place from the first meeting of the young ladies la-dies who are trying out for the honor each year until the winner win-ner is named on the Pleasant Grove High School auditorium stage. I admire these young women for their courage to get up in front of people, perform their talent, do service projects, proj-ects, answer tough questions, learn an introductory dance which they all do together at the beginning and are scrutinized scruti-nized closely all the time. I would never have had the courage to do it and I admire the ones who do have that self confidence. Without it, it could not be done. This event each year takes an unbelievable amount of time, not only for the girls but also for the women who work with them on the committee. There are practices every Saturday for weeks prior, there are costumes cos-tumes for their talent number to prepare, there are the strenuous workouts to perfect their talent number, doing a service project, proj-ect, there are hours of learning how to carry yourself just so, how to answer tough questions from the judges, and unbelievable unbeliev-able hours asking themselves if they made the right choice to go through all of this. those who have had the opportunity op-portunity to participate in it have greatly grown from the experience. Be sure to support our young women here in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove who chose to participate par-ticipate in this pageant and "BLAB" continued on Page 4 "BLAB" continued from Page 2 who are giving their best to make it a success. Remember this! Maybe only one girl will walk away with the 201 1 crown, but all of these contestants are winners win-ners because of the choice they made and their desire to help others. Good luck, young women!! |
