Show "Japan and the Mideast" I I I.I I.I ... I. Ill . I 1 1 things we have been advised over add over to secure Unlike what we saw after hurricane Katrina, the Japanese people have been incredibly resourceful. Rather than sit around and wait for government help, they immediately began cleaning up and helping others less fortunate. Government and business leaders offered apologies and not excuses. They took responsibility for their failures immediately. I was touched by the response from around the world but most particularly from the United States. This great nation was among the first and best able to send immediate tangible help. Kids in schools from sea to shining sea began raising money to help children in Japan. In other lands people are saying that enough is enough. The miracle of modern technology is spreading the message of freedom and hope. The truth is bypassing traditional roadblocks set up by tyrants and despots and reaching the oppressed as never before. The old days of governments burning books is giving way to a firestorm of information permeating every corner of the globe. Many may recall the single man standing in front of a tank in China. President Reagan said that truth crushed to the ground will rise again. The human spirit is crying for freedom. Even traditions dating back hundreds if not thousands of years are giving way to a better way of life. Recently I spoke with my son, David, who works for T Mobile, about what is coming with technology. Utah Legislators got a taste of what can happen in the new world of technology when they tried to "slip" through a bill limiting access to government records. A firestorm of information circulated among the people and within minutes a tidal wave of electronic feedback began pouring in. Even the most arrogant of legislators began seeing the light. The electronic handwriting was on the wall. The proposed legislation was amended and taken under advisement. Nervous legislators reversed closed door positions. God bless the millions of good . people in Japan and those who are suffering from this horrific series of events. God bless the millions of people who are casting off the shackles of oppressive governments and turning toward the light of knowledge and freedom. It has taken us over 200 years to get from a place of slavery to where we are. We must not be impatient with others. structures known to mankind were reduced to rubble in seconds. Waves of water swept away entire cities and destroyed everything in its path. Thousands perished without regard to status. Other events around the globe have caused us pause. Flooding, drought, earthquakes, fires and hurricanes have caused millions unbelievable suffering. On top of this wars, killings, crime, starvation and disease caused by human beings cause millions more to suffer beyond our ability to imagine. One day, the chickens will come home to roost right here. Over and over we have been warned that earthquakes are inevitable. The only question will be the magnitude of this destruction. Over and over we have been warned to get prepared. Depending on the severity of the destruction help may be days, even weeks, if not months away. In Japan we saw images of snow falling in various areas where some of the most severe destruction had taken place. The call for help was always the same. We need water, food, clothing, bedding, shelter and medicine. These are all by Mark Bezzant The horrific earthquake in Japan points to a very sobering reality. The changes in the Mideast point to another important reality. The future is certain. By that I mean that the future holds certain changes caused by mother nature and others will come as the result of human nature. In a matter less than four minutes, mother nature set in motion a series of events that shifted the focus of the entire world. Modern technology captured the events that unfolded and beamed them across the globe. Images that rivaled, if not exceeded, the destruction of atomic weapons were beamed into our homes. The greatest In the mean time, we have time to prepare for the inevitable and reach out to those who presently suffer so very much. Thanks, Shawn Bradley, for helping those with leprosy in foreign lands. Thanks, Dr. Dickerson, for helping put a smile on the faces of unknown faces around the globe. Thanks to those of you helping the needy right here at home! What a great country! |
