Show PG Orchestra and Young Artists Offer Free Concert f ff " f J ' ' . - 'r' , i - - , ' I - '1 . ' ' ' '' ' - J Pleasant Grove Orchestra will present the annual Young Artists' Concert on Friday, March 25, at 7 p.m. at the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High School Auditorium. Audito-rium. This concert features the following musicians: Joey Buck, who started playing the piano at age 3, Benson Marshall, age 9, on the cello, Alec Taylor, age 16, on the viola, Rebecca Devonas, age 16, on the oboe, Spencer Allen, Al-len, age 17, on the french horn, Alyssa Pyper, age 17, on the violin. Also we will be featuring featur-ing selections from "Carnival of the Animals" with the following: Briton Hainsworth, Brennan Burnett, Dallin Ivan Corbridge, Strom Truman Clark, and Emily Em-ily Livingston. The orchestra will be featured in Jean Sibelius' "Finlandia." Everyone is invited to this free concert sponsored by the Pleasant Grove Arts Commission. Com-mission. This will be an enjoyable enjoy-able evening filled with music from amazing young musicians. Alyssa Pyper, age 17, is the daughter of Gregory and Jennifer Jenni-fer Pyper of Highland. She has played the violin for 10 years and is formally studying with Monte Belknap. In 2010 Alyssa performed per-formed with the Utah Symphony as a Youth Symphony Ail-Star in their side by side concert. She was seated first stand, playing the solos from Death and Transfiguration, Transfigu-ration, OP.24. In 2009 she was a Performance Finalist for the Utah Valley Symphony Young Artists. Alyssa was awarded Honorable Mention in the Intermediate Inter-mediate Strings Division by the Utah State Fair Music Competition Competi-tion in 2008. She attends Lone Peak High School where she is concert master of the Symphonic Orchestra. Under the direction of Mack Wilberg, she was concert con-cert master for the 2010 Alpine School District Masterworks Festival performance of Mozart's Mo-zart's Requiem. Alyssa was recently re-cently named the 2011 Sterling Scholar of Music for LPHS and continued to the state finals. She . has been accepted to the School of Music and awarded a scholarship scholar-ship at Brigham Young University Univer-sity where she will continue her studies in Violin Performance. She has been a member of the Timpanogos Chamber Orchestra for seven years and the Lyceum Philharmonic this past year. Benson Marshall is nine years old and has been playing the cello since he was five. He is a member of the American Heritage Heri-tage Lyceum Ensemble. He was In no particular order. Briton Hainsworth, Brennan Burnett, Dallin Ivan Corbridge, Strom Truman Clark and Emily Livingston. selected to play in the Suzuki Youth Orchestra of the Americas in Minneapolis last May. He has studied with Catherine Willcy, Elizabeth Willey, and currently studies with Carey Cheney. Benson has a great love of music and can often be heard chanting "play likeYo-Yo." Some of Benson's Ben-son's favorite things are Legos, BYU basketball, Tae Kwon Do, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Cub Scouts. Spencer Allen is a 17-year-old senior at Pleasant Grove High School. He plays in the Pleasant Grove Band where he played in the pit orchestra for the hit productions of "Le Miserable," Misera-ble," "South Pacific" and "Phantom "Phan-tom of the Opera." He also plays in the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra which was awarded "Best of State" orchestra the last two years. He was delighted to be chosen to be in the All-state Orchestra this year. Joey's love of piano started before he could talk. He was born with an insatiable desire to learn as much as he could about everything including music. He started piano lessons when he was three years old. He now is studying with Dr. David Hatch. Born in 1994 in Minneapolis, Minneapo-lis, Minnesota Rebecca Devo- -nas began studying oboe at age 12 with her first teacher, Kris-tine Kris-tine Baird, and then followed with Sarah Holden. Rebecca is a member of the Timpview High School orchestra and band and member of the Lyceum Philharmonic Philhar-monic of the American Heritage School. In 2010 and 2011 Rebecca Re-becca was selected to serve as first oboe in the Utah All-State Orchestra and performed this Spring in Timpview's Con-erto Con-erto Aria concert. In addition to oboe studies, Rebecca has played piano since the age of eight and participated for the last four years in the Heber Valley Val-ley Piano Festival, earning superior supe-rior ratings in all categories each year. Besides music, Rebecca enjoys running varsity crosscountry cross-country and is an excited BYU basketball 'fan! One might also catch her rubbing noses with the family goat, Lucy. Briton Hainsworth, 16, is a junior at Pleasant Grove High School. He has been playing the cello since age five and has studied stud-ied with Denise Willey, Carey Cheney and Patie Pinkston. He is a member of the school swim team and advanced art classes. In his spare time, he loves to do elaborate flips on a trampoline, in the water and on skiis. He is an inventor and creator extraordinaire, extraor-dinaire, owns a 40 lb. rubber band ball, is a yo-yo expert and loves graphic design. Briton is the son of Reed and Becky Hainsworth of Lindon. Brennan Burnett, a 16-year-old sophomore at Pleasant Grove High School, has been playing the piano since he was six. Even at a young age Brennan Bren-nan showed strong musical talent. Under the direction of his piano teacher, Becky Hainsworth, Hain-sworth, who introduced him to some of the great classical composers, Brennan has always al-ways loved to play the classics and today enjoys the process of learning, mastering, and performing per-forming difficult compositions. In his spare time, Brennan can be found either running with the Pleasant Grove cross country coun-try team or traversing the slopes of the local ski resorts on his snowboard. Brennan is the son of Kevin and Raelene Burnett and currently lives in Lindon. Dallin Ivan Corbridge is an "A" junior student at Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High School. His hobbies include mountain biking, bik-ing, scuba diving, photography, a love for all sports, and he is currently excelling in his high school weight-lifting competition. competi-tion. Dallin has been raised in a musically inclined family, providing pro-viding him with the opportunity to develop great talent on not only the piano, but the trumpet, guitar and percussion as well. He has composed numerous original pieces and enjoys playing play-ing for family and friends. Strom Truman Clark, 16 year-old junior from Karl G. Maeser Prep Academy, has been playing piano since he was five years old. He loves music and occasionally plays guitar in his mother's rock and roll band. Strom is a third degree de-gree black belt in Tae Kwando and is studying his third year of Chinese. His real passion is science and in 2010 he took first place at CUSEF (Central Utah Science and Engineering Fair) in the senior division for Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry, was awarded a trip to the Intel In-tel International Science and Engineering Fair and won an $80,000 scholarship to Westminster West-minster College. In addition to his love of science, he lettered let-tered in debate as a freshman and debated with the Maeser Prep state team last year in St. George where they were 2A state champions. He loves to travel and has been to Europe Eu-rope and South Africa. Best of all, he loves to learn about the world and is worried that he doesn't have enough time to explore all of the subjects that interest him.
