Show Beth Mendenhall And R. S. Carter Are Wed V Among the pre-holiday season marriages of interest is that of Miss Beth Mendenhall of Salt Lake City, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Mendenhall of this city, and Robert Ro-bert S. Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Carter of Salt Lake City. The ceremony was performed on Saturday morning at St. Paul's Episcopal church in Salt Lake City, with the Rev. A. E. Butcher officiating. offi-ciating. The altar of the church was decorated dec-orated with pare white blooms and lighted with tapers in brass candelabra. can-delabra. The bride wore a smart going away suit of French blue with matching accessories and a corsage of orchids. Miss Venice Whiting of this city was maid of honor and chose a suit of wood brown with accessories to match and a rose corsage. William ! W. Bowerbank of Salt Lake City was best man. The couple left immediately after af-ter the ceremony on a wedding trip to the west coast, and upon ' their return will make their home in Salt Lake City. MRS. ERNEST STRONG ENTERTAINED THURSDAY evening at her home for members of the Mothers' Study club at their annual Christmas party. A beautifully beauti-fully decorated tree and other holiday holi-day motifs were used throughout the entertaining rooms. President Gladys Boyer had the meeting in charge, with Mrs. A. G. Peterson and Mrs. F. A. Barrett directing the program. During the evening, Mrs. Mae Huntington read, "So This Is Christmas." Jane Strong entertained entertain-ed with three pipe organ selections; selec-tions; the high school male quartet, quar-tet, composed of Dick Miner, Louis Maiben, Calvin Clyde, and Darrell Barrell, gave vocal selections; Shirley Shir-ley Peterson, a vocal solo; Mrs. A. G. Peteson, a poem; the club quartet, quar-tet, composed of Mrs. Philda Finley, Fin-ley, Mrs. Beth Barrett, Mrs. Gladys Boyer, and Mrs. Etta Thorpe, rendered ren-dered vocal numbers; Mrs. William Schreiner, readings; and Mrs. T. E. Child an original composition entitled, en-titled, "In the Grand Old Days." At the close of the party Santa Claus appeared to distribute comical com-ical gifts to each member. The club had contributed funds which could have been used for gifts on a national defense project and dispensed dis-pensed with the regular gift exchange. ex-change. A delicious luncheon was served serv-ed by the hostess, who was assisted assist-ed by her daughter, Mrs. Lucille Peterson, to 20 club members and five guests, the latter including Mrs. John R. Anderson, Mrs. Eva Crandall, Mrs. T. E. Child, and Mrs. Nell Alleman. CAMP HOBBLE CREEK MET WEDNESDAY at the home of Captain Anna Beardall for their annual Christmas Christ-mas party. Louise Childs was as- : sisting hostess. ' A delightful program, including 1 a vocal solo by Eldean Weight, a duet by Myrtle and Louise Childs, together with a history of her great-grandparents given by Made- ! line Weight, and the lesson by Na- 1 omi Weight and Myrtle Childs, was enjoyed. 1 During the evening, Santa Claus 1 visited the group and distributed gifts. The party was concluded with a nicely arranged luncheon 1 served by the hostess. i 1 NOTRE CHEZ GIRLS WERE ENTERTAINED at their annual Christmas party on Friday evening at the high school. 1 An interesting feature of the en- 1 tertainment was the talk by Thel- 1 ma Peterson on "Christmas in Nor- 1 way." She was dressed in a typical Norwegian costume and gave a number of her personal experiences ; while in Norway. A delightful luncheon was serv- 1 ed and later, surprising the group, i Santa Claus appeared to distri- i bute gifts to each girl present, numbering approximately 28 club members and guests. 1 NANA LEE REYNOLDS ' ENTERTAINED FRIENDS at a Christmas party at her home Friday evening. The group was i served a delicious luncheon and i also enjoyed a variety of games. Around a beautiful Christmas tree, Christmas gifts were exchanged ex-changed to feature the entertain- ment. : It is the wise merchant who put the "ad" in trade. MRS. EMIL OSTLUND WAS HOSTESS to members of the Alpha Beta club at their Christmas party on Friday Fri-day afternoon at her home. A lovely love-ly tree and other Christmas decorations decora-tions with luncheon favors added to the spirit of the occasion. To feature the program, Mrs. Rea Straw gave a Christmas story. Norma Ostlund entertained with a Christmas reading and Christmas gifts were exchanged. Concluding the meeting and social, a tasty luncheon was served by the hostess hos-tess to approximately 20 club members. AVE DELMA CLUB MEMBERS MET at a no-hostess Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Gertie Ruff on Thursday evening. Twelve club members attended. Christmas decorations were predominant pre-dominant throughout the entertaining entertain-ing rooms and following a delicious lunch, card games were enjoyed. Prizes for the evening went to Mrs. Dolly Smith, first; Mrs. Helen Rob-bins, Rob-bins, second; Mrs. Carrie Jolley, traveling, and Mrs. Birdie Thorpe, consolation. At the close of the party the group exchanged Christmas gifts. |
