Show 'SERVICES HELD 4 TUESDAY FOR MAPLETON MAN Joseph Jensen, Prominent Farmer, Churchman Dies At Salt Lake City Hospital Funeral services for Joseph Jensen 72, well known retired farmer and civic and church leader . of Mapleton, who died Saturday, were conducted Tuesday afternoon, in the Mapleton ward chapel, under direction of Bishop Oscar Whiting. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery, under direction of A. Y. Wheeler and Son Mortuary. Mr. Jensen passed away at a Salt Lake City hospital Saturday from a lingering illness. He was born in Spanish Fork, a son of early settlers Hans Peter and Karen Marie' Nielson Jensen. The family moved to Mapleton while the children were young and he had spent most of his life since in that community engaging in farming and taking an especially active part in church and civic affairs. For a number of years, he served as town marshall and was also Justice of the Peace for some time. He had served as a member of the Mapleton town board and was a member of the Strawberry Water Association 11 years. He had also served as president of the irrigation company at Mapleton. Maple-ton. Mr. Jensen was president of the Elders Quorum of Mapleton for several years and had also served as a counsellor in the Y.M.M.I.A. He was president of the Genealogical Genea-logical committee and at the time of his death held the position of High Priest. He married Harriet L. Whiting December 5, 1900 in the Salt. Lake Temple. She survives him as do the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Clara - Arnett, Price; Mrs. Nelda Carlson, Salem; Mrs. Fern Butler, Ogden; Mrs. Marie Whiting, Whit-ing, Springville; Russell Jensen, Spanish Fork; Fay Ernel and Fred Jensen and Mrs. Muriel Cox, Mapleton. There are also 30 grandchildren; grand-children; two brothers and one sister, Peter and Chris Jensen, Mapleton and Mrs. John Bissell, Springville. |
