As the eve of All Souls' day, it seems a bit incongruous that it should be made an oeeasiou for merriment, but such it has been since an early period of the world 's history. That perhaps accounts for the fact that it has bec ome a season of conviviality. The offerings of late October in ripened rip-ened fruit, pumpkins adaptable for Jack-o'-lanterns, together with gorgeous chrysanthemums and the rich tints of autumn leaves give ninny effective decorative dec-orative ideas for Hallowe'en entertainments, entertain-ments, of which there will be many in Salt Lake this ye-ar. In spite of the saddening influence of war, the spirit of youth and fmi is still irrepressible and the usual pranks of the Hallowe'en season will be in evidence. The shops offer many attractive devices de-vices in the way of witches, black cats, miniature pumpkins and other things suggestive of the season for introduction introduc-tion in the decoration for Hallowe'en parties. A prominent wedding of the week, that of Miss Gladys Savage, a popular young society girl of Salt Lake, and Andrew Jackson Wight of Perth Author, Aut-hor, N J., will just miss being a Hallowe'en Hal-lowe'en social event by one day, since the wedding date is set for Tuesday, October 30. j. , AEKAXGKMKXTS are practically complete for the charity ball to bo given at the Hotel Utah, Saturday, November No-vember 10. IX the interest of the Red Cross a large card party was given yesterday yester-day afternoon by the Wasatch Literary club at the Hotel Utah. One hundred tables, arranged on the mezzanine floor, were filled with card players. Tea was served later in the banquet room. Chrysanthemums were used to adorn the table, which was presided over by Mrs. Eber W. Hall, Mrs. H. A. King, Mrs. Earl Dunshoe and Mrs. B. F. Frobes. During the tea hour an interesting inter-esting programme was given, which included in-cluded the following numbers: A violin solo by Professor P. Melvin Peterson, accompanied by Mrs. P. O.
