Residential crusade volunteers number over thirty thousand throughout the state of Utah, conducting an educational and fundraising program, giving neighbors leaflets with messages, and telling a neighbor or friend about what they can do to reduce their cancer risk. It is our goal to reach 100 percent of the area homes during the Apirl drive. commented Sevier County volunteer chairman, Connie Johns. During the drive, volunteers will give a leaflet to each home contacted. The leaflet contains important information outlining eating habits that reduce cancer risk. The American Cancer Society continues to be diligently engaged in the fight against cancer by making large contributions to medical education research, public programs, screening programs, and services to cancer patients. The society urges support by every household in making a generous contribution. All battles cost money. With plenty of financial support from the public, cancer can be reduced, reminded Johns. Jose, Calif. Dear Vi: A dealer gave us a sizeable discount on a new refrigerator because it had been dented in transit. Imagine our delight when (at the suggestion of a friend who does body work on cars) we were able to remove the dent with an ordinary plunger. The suction does the trick. George A., Richfield, Ut. A good idea to remember for a dented fender. Thanks, George. Dear Vi: To make nice fried eggs without basting or turning, add about a tablespoon of water to the skillet and cover with a tight lid. If you can get your outside grill into your oven when youre going to clean it with the cycle (we had to tilt ours to get it in ) it will come out looking like new. When we give our youngsters a bath together in the bathtub, we put the baby in a plastic laundry basket. This keeps her happy and safe while Im shampooing hair and scrubbing the other two. State Inspections, Vi: Your household hints are most helpful. Too bad theyre not printed every day. Here are some ideas Id like to share: 1. A piece of alum kept in your silverware drawer will help prevent tarnish. 2. A raw oyster placed in base of a fern will steadily improve its growth. (Vis note: As will any kind of fish or fish fertilizer.) 3. Dirty candles can be cleaned with a cloth dampened with alcohol without losing any of their luster. 4. When baking dumplings use a glass plate for a lid to allow you to peek without jarring the dumplings and making them fall. 5. A lump of sugar per pint of olive oil will retard rancidity. 6. Cheese stays fresh longer when wrapped in a cloth saturated with vinegar. This also retards mold. member of Richfield Elks Lodge GOVERNOR 1 The committee is made up of representative from various state agencies, universities and private industry who contribute information into the development of population estimates.
