Those Lions 'nave loon real work- ers in the cause and no task im-i im-i posed has been too difficult for them (o master, they have at all times responded to the call of the president for all meetings and other special duties which came at various times. Our club at present numbers Kfi active and 1 honorary member. In nearly all cases our quarterly dues of ?4.00 are promptly met. We have collected approximately 9S per cent of all dues up to and including April 1, 1929. Summing up our activities from our monthly reports, we might enumerate enu-merate the following as some of the accomplishments of the group for the past year: Our first activity was the arranging arrang-ing for and assisting to put over the Second Annual Utah Poultry Day Celebration on May 23, 192S; this event was a gala day for American Fork and if this day is continued each year it will prove to be the greatest advertising medium we can hope to build as a means of letting the world know of the possibilities we have here in our fair city. "Let's make American Fork the center of the Poultry Industry in the United 'States." The club again sponsored the baseball base-ball team and arranged for the sale of season tickets and also the transportation trans-portation of the players. This was carried through the entire season without a "hitch." Much credit is due the club for this activity as baseball is another good medium for bringing American Fork to the front our slogan "Another Pennant for 1929." At the Lions District Convention at Payson held on June 4th our members were successful iu winning first place for the best stunt and also first place in attendance. The matter of improving our Main Street Lighting was taken up by the club and as a result our city council unanimously passed on a new plan of lighting, which was installed and has proved to be very satisfactory. On October 25th the club was host G. Merredith, W. L. Johnson, J. A. "West, W. H. Preston, Karl H. Bennett, J. F. Walker, Harry M. Steele and Eugene Nicholes. The committee on the home for the feeble minded also reported. Dr. G. S. Richards, as chairman of the committee, made a splendid re- j port on the establishment of the $300, 000 state home or school for the feeble fee-ble minded. He said that the committee com-mittee had met Dr. Beaty and Governor Govern-or Dern and discussed the things American Fork has to offer if it can be located here. They pointed out that this is the geographical center of the state and also very near the center of population. We have plenty of fertile land and abundance of water and numerous locations close to the highway and railroads. Dr. Richards said the committee was very favorably met by these state officials and since our citizens fostered foster-ed the bill for the establishment of such a home and were first in the state to make a request for its estab- lishment here he feels that there Is every reason to believe that we can secure it if every citizen and organization organi-zation will put forth their best efforts. Other members of the committee varified Dr. Richards remarks and expressed ex-pressed their personal belief that we can secure this great state building and school which will be maintained by state appropriations, furnish proper prop-er homes for upwards of 600 inmates and employment for a hundred or more persons. A commission of six men from the state will be appointed to handle this to the members of the baseball team and their ladies at the regular Ladies night Luncheon and (lancing parly. The Boy Scout drive was again taken up by the club and an intensive canvass was made with the desired goal attained. At the Christmas season through the efforts of the club our Main street was a blaze of red and green lights attractively mingled with Christmas trees and Yuletide decorations. We also assisted the local Firemen in putting over the Annual Community Christmas Tree, this is an outstand- matter. Those present voted to recommend rec-ommend that Dr. G. S. Richards be appointed as one of this commission. Miss Sarah Chipman, who has won over seven high schools in the annual state oration contest, was present and gave her splendid oration to the club. She was highly praised for her efforts and success thus far and was given a rousing vote of thanks. She will meet more school reprcsenitives for the stale honors and the club wished her further success and honors. Mr. Thomas, of the Provo American Ameri-can Legion was present in behalf of the Legion Junior baseball league which is to be fostered throughout, the entire country this year. He expressed ex-pressed the hope that American Fork would foster three or four tams this season and contest in the county, district and larger units. The club voted to assist the local legion in putting over the project. Secretary S. T.
