Show National Speaking Contest St. Louis, Mo., Feb. 1, 1930 Future Farmers of America, an organization of 75,600 farm boys enrolled as students stud-ents of vocational agriculture, is sponsoring the first annual National Public Speaking Contest which will be held during the F. F. A Congress in Kansas City during November of this year. Four young orators representing rep-resenting the North Atlantic, Central, Southern, and Western regions will compete for $1,000, the first prize being be-ing $500. The money for these prizes and expenses of the four contestants to Kansas City will be contributed by Senator Arthur Capper of Kansas jfiru the Capper Farm Press. Tnb national contest will be supervised by C. H. Lane, Chief of the Federal Agricultural Education Service, and John F. Case, editor Missouri Rural-ist, Rural-ist, representing Senator Capper. Elimination contests will first be held in all states where the Future Farmers of America have organiza-tions. organiza-tions. Winning orators will be sent to regional contests which must be held not later than October 15, 1930. Contestants are allowed to select their own subjects but the subject must relate to agriculture. More than 1,500 delegates representing the state associations of Future Farmers are expeuted to attend the 1930 Congress Con-gress and to listen to the Public Speaking contest which will be broad cast over a nation wide hookup of radio stations. The elimination contest for the eleven Western States will be held at Phoenix, Arizona, during the week of May 5. Utah will have district and state tryouts and send the winner to Phoenix. From L. R.
