Show POLICE BLOTTER car thief nabbed in midway A Park City juvenile, an escapee from the state juvenile detention center, was arrested early last Friday in Midway and charged with two counts of auto theft. A stolen 1968 Ford Galaxi, reported taken last week, and a 1953 Willy's Jeep pick-up stolen Friday evening were both recovered in the Midway area. According to police, the juvenile, who has had a history of auto theft, apparently stole the Ford last week from the parking lot of the Homestake condos, but later ran the car into a gully off Interlaken Rd. near Wasatch Mountain State Park. He returned to Park City and is suspected of stealing the pick-up parked behind a house at 1150 Park Avenue, shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday. At approximately 6 p.m., the juvenile appeared at a friend's house in Midway to ask for help in retrieving the Ford. He claimed he owned both the pick-up and the ditched Ford. The two were unsuccessful, and were later stopped by Heber City police at approximately 2 a.m. Friday while driving in the friend's car, which had no tail lights. Asked by police who his passenger was, the friend, unaware that the Park City youth had escaped from the detention center and stolen the cars, gave the youth's name. The police, who had been advised several weeks earlier of the youth's escape from the detention center by the Park City police department, immediately arrested him, but still had no knowledge of the stolen cars. The next morning, the friend's mother called the Wasatch County Sheriff's office to report that the Ford was still stuck in the gully. When they investigated, they discovered both cars were stolen. Charges were soon filed. clem charged cheesecake affair Park City Fire District Commissioner and former city councilman Clem Hansen was arrested last Monday and charged with discharging firearms within the city limits after allegedly firing a round of buckshot into a dog's behind from the porch of his Norfolk Avenue home. The dog, named Cheesecake and owned by Tara Healey, was taken to a veterinarian in Heber arid treated for buckshot wounds. Hansen appeared before Judge Brent Gold Tuesday morning and plead not guilty to the charges. He will face a court appearances at a later date. robbers tap sunn for $3,100 Burglars broke into a locked desk in an office of the Sunn Classics building Thursday night and made off with $3100 in cash that was supposed to be paid Friday to extras in the movie they are currently filming in Park City. Police report the burglars entered the buliding between 7:30 and 8:45 p.m. while filming was taking place in the Elks building across the street. The building itself was unlocked and police could find no sign of forced entry into office. The desk in which the money was kept, stuffed in envelopes to be given out the next day, was broken into with a crowbar. the right cross connection Salt Lake man was assaulted Thursday in front of the Ski Connection by a local resident holding a grudge over a traffic incident the day before. The man was reportedly standing by his car when another car pulled up and the local resident jumped out. The two men began arguing and the victim sustained a right cross to the jaw. According to reports, the two had exchanged threatening gestures Wednesday when the Salt Lake man pulled in front of the alleged assaulter in traffic. No formal charges had been filed at press time. shoplifting for high steaks A man was arrested in Day's Market Thursday and charged with shoplifting after he was caught trying to steal a $3.14 package of steak. Day's manager Jerry Duke reportedly saw the man attempting to slip the package down the inside of his pants and called the police, who made the arrest. The man plead guilty before Judge Brent Gold and was fined $50. (I at suns unlucky on lucky john A 1977 Datsun and 1969 Datsun sustained $400 damage each Thursday evening when they collided on Lucky John Drive in Park Meadows. According to reports, the earlier model Datsun was parked in front of a house at 2675 Lucky John Drive. The driver of the newer Datsun failed to see the parked car, which had no lights on, and plowed into it. |
