M . B Tho Progressive meeting Saturday B evening was the largest political m meeting held this year. There were m ten times more persons present chan M either the Republicans or Democrats Hj had at their primaries to elect dele- H gates to nominate Tart or Wilson. H A Salt Lake paper, unfriendly to the m ' cause, sas thero were only 150 per- H sons present. Well that is Just COO H per cent more than either of the old parties had at their primaries. So, accordingly, the Teddyites will swamp 1 both the old parties, if attendance at Wmf , the meetings is any guide. m The meeting was called to order by M J. M. Forrlstall. F. J. Hendprshot aM J took the floor and nominated William m Glasmann for chairman, claiming that WW ' his candidate published the only H- I daily paper In Utah advocating Roose- H velt and that he believed in recognlz- ing fearless newspapers and their H publishers Mr. Hendershot made a R splendid speech, giving his reasons M why he found It necessary to leave Hi the Republican party He moved that his candidate be elected chairman by W acclamation, which was done. H Reads Michigan Platform. H Mr. Glasmann read the platform Bj adopted by tho Progressive state con- j vpntlon in Michigan Saturday and Bj said it was a sample of what Is com- Bj Ing from the National Progressive Bj convention to be held on August 5 at Bj Chicago. This created m An uproar and 40 to 50 people wanted BR to. talk. Mr.' Abels got the floor and BJ paid the Republican steam roller of H9 Weber county was already oiled and H In running order and nothing could BJ stop It except an Independent Pro- Hj gresslve party Irvine BmniPtt said BJ he was a Democrat, but loved The- BJ odore Roosevelt and wanted to help BJ elect him, but not as a Republican. After much con- U fusion, It developed that Mr For- Bj ristall had made the motion to test H the progressiveness of certain llfe- H long Republicans. Then a motion was HI unanimously carried that the Progres- H slve party be organized free and ln- H dependent from both the old parties m and that a county. Tho executive committee was empowered em-powered to fill all vacancies In the central committee and call the members mem-bers together Immediately after the Provo convention.
