Show Rates for Upper Berths ; and Even Lower j Berths Cut Chicago, Dec. 1. General reductions reduc-tions for the rates of upper Pullman berths and, in certain Instances, for lower berths, were announced today before Commissioners Franklin K. lane and K. E. Clark of the Interstate commerce commission by G. S Fer-nald Fer-nald of the Pullman company. No testimony in the cases before the commission was takeD. The reduction In tipper berth rates offered Is 20 per cent where the lower low-er berth rate exceeds $1.50. Various reductions are announced for the rates on lower berths in specific Instances. In-stances. Today's hearing, at which the promise prom-ise of a reduction was made, was a hearing of the petition of George S. Iftus against the Pullman company, the principal issue being the upper berth rates between Chicago and the j Pacific coast. Last March th? interstate commerce commission ordered a reduction for both upper and lower berths, and the United States circuit court enjoined the enforcement of this ordr Instead In-stead it directed that a rehearing be held. The offer of the Pullman company proving satisfactory to the plaintiff before the commission, no testimony was hoard. |
