Show Noted Author Coming Here Some Economic Bases of Ameri-son Ameri-son Tradition will be theme of a series of lectures by Dr. Louis M. Hacker, well-known New York lecturer, professor, and author, during the 1945 summer session at Utah State Agricultural college, col-lege, summer session officials report. re-port. During the week he will be on the campus, Dr. Hacker will deliver de-liver lectures daily at 11 a. m., Topics of the various discussions will be European backgrounds; what the settler rejected and what they brought with them to America; Hamiltonian planning; the economics program of the Republican party during 1860-78; The American farmer, historically viewed; a planned economy in terms of the American tradition. His lecture series will follow a series of addresses by Dr. Lionel Trilling, nationally famed author, critic, and lecturer, who will dis- cuss the American traaiuon in terms of literary figures. Dr. Hacker has been assistant professor of economics at Columbia Colum-bia university since 1942 and prior to that time was lecturer in economics eco-nomics at the university. A regular contributor to- Harpers, Nation, and New Republic, Mr. Hacker has won national fame as an author and editor. He edited -the Columbia College Contemporary Civilization Manual and Source Book and is co-editor of the United States and Its Place in World Affairs. Mr. Hacker is author of many books including Farmer is Doomed, Short History of the New Deal and Triumph of American Capital-ism. |
