Show ho nffordcd every person who desires to Juiu his club thut night and participate partici-pate in the proceedings. If a. man Is qualified to become a member he can be trusted to elect tho right kind of orm-era. Wo would rather trust the Judgment of 25 or 30 men to elect the officers than five or alx. THE COMMERCIAL CLUB. Owing to the absence of the president presi-dent and tho dramatic entertainment, the annual election of the Commercial Club was postponed until next Saturday. Satur-day. Interest In the club has gradually gradu-ally dwindled until lately only from four to six persons met together to confidence In the Judgment and dlsln-the dlsln-the majority of business men have lost transact business. Former members have dropped out, new members and terestedness of those w ho are directing Its work. This Is an unfortunate condition con-dition and there must be a reason for It. We think one reason is that the active members have been using the club to advanco the interests of Clark street to the detriment of other parts of the town. Two specific Instances of thlB have been brought to our notice. We don't believe It Is the province of the club to boost for Clark street or any other particular part of town. Clark street will be the business center of the town only because It Is tho natural nat-ural and logical center, and no Com-merclal Com-merclal club can turn business that way If It doesn't appeal to Investors as the natural center. We have faith In Clark street and expect to put up a cement block printing office there, but we have no quarrel with those who think any other part of town Is more desirable. We want to see more people peo-ple settle In Delta, more buildings built, and we don't care where they are built. Let Individuals use all their Influence to pull buyers their way, but It Is the poorest kind of policy for a commercial commer-cial dub, representing all, to diverse Interest of a town, to pull for one section. sec-tion. It certainly has disrupted the 1 club lo re and unless a different policy ' Is pursued It will be dead beyond resurrection res-urrection It will simply be a Chirk Street Club. Another mistake that has created dls-cord dls-cord is the postofflce matter. While , the first move was not made by the . club w hen they did take It up they ban-died ban-died It In a way that antagonized many people. They made Clark street the matter of first Importance not the competency of the man. They had only one candidate for the people to supimrt. Had they beld a mass meeting, allowing all candidates to present their claims and tell where and what kind of an office they would have It would have given every candl date an equal show and every man to vote for his choice. We hope this will still be done by our precinct chairman. . The editor got together a number of the members, ex members and pros, pectlve members In fact, everybody he could reach, to talk over matters In an Informal manner and try and harmonize the various differences, but we fear his efforts were of little , avail. We hope every member, ex member and every other person who wants to see a live, broad gague set of of fleers elected w ill come out. We ought to have o! Beers who haven't got real estate to sell and are ready to work for every section of the town and ev ery In'erest. We also hope an opportunity will |
