Show GEORGE JEFFERSON One final fling as the political campaign passes into history. We wish through these columns to pay a little public pub-lic tribute to the man Beaver county is sending to the legislature legis-lature George Jefferson. In connection with our manner of earning our livlihood, we publish political and commercial advertising in this paper as well as print bills and dodgers of the same order. We were given an opportunity this week to figure on a job of printing a political tract that was not calculated to do George Jefferson any good politically. While wo do not think there was anything in the bill of such a nature as to necessitate apologies from the Democratic committee, and certainly not to evoke gestures of 'begging your pardon' par-don' from the publisher, there are many men, who, had the printed matter been aimed at them, would have taken it in a much different manner than did Mr. Jefferson-While Jefferson-While he knew that our personal politics are Democratic, he vent no spite upon us, simply remarking "It's all in a lifetime." Some of our readers know that we are privileged to earn a living in a building rented, (by verbal lease), from Mr. Jefferson and that he has ahvays been a liberal supporter sup-porter of the home town paper. He did not use these facts to- embarrass us by asking that he might see in advance, the material written against him. He fought his fight without with-out such methods. Mr. Tolton put up a campaign that was conceded by opponents to be clean. In none of his remarks to voters did we learn Where he took any dirty digs at his opponent. Also, in support of his own past record as a legislator, the elder Mr- Tolton used our press to make a very dignified refutation refuta-tion without unnecessary comment. Much of the pre-election hysteria existed only in the minds of the voters. |
