Show ! SARAH SHEPHERD PASSES AWAY ;IN PAYSON ! Sarah Ann Stoney Shepherd, 1 90, immigrant pioneer from England who came to Utah with . a handcart company when she I was one year of age, died Tuesday Tues-day evening at her home in Pay-son, Pay-son, a few days before her 91st) birthday. I A faithful member of the L D S Church, she had known ( every president of the Church ' personally with the exception of Jo.vph Smith. She was pres-ent pres-ent at the dedication of the St. George Temple and for many years served in various offices ' in Beaver County, where she lived for 65 years. A daughter of Robert and i Sarah Jakeman Stoney, she was . born at Leeds, England, Oct. 19, 1859. She came to Utah as an , infant and lived at Lehi for three years before -moving to Beaver. Mrs. Shepherd was named first counselor of the Primary Association when it was organize organ-ize dat Beaver a week after the first Primary was organized in Northern Utah, end also served as president of the Beaver Stake Primary. She was a Relief Re-lief Society block teacher until she was 80 years of age, and taught the literary lesson in Relief Re-lief Society at Beaver until she was 70. For many years she taught the parents' class in the Sunday School at Beaver West L D S Ward. She played leading lead-ing parts in home dramatics for 30 years and toured Utah and went to San Francisco, funds raised being turned to the Perpetual Per-petual Immigration fund of the L D S Church. She was a member mem-ber of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and honored as such in recent years. Surviving are four sons: R. I L. Shepherd, Boise, Idaho; L. F. Shepherd, Hazelton, Idaho; J. L. Shepherd, Ogden; J. Ezra Shepherd, Caldwell, Idaho; two daughters, Mrs. Rilla S. Johnson, John-son, Hazelton, Idaho, and Mrs. Laura Shepherd of Payson; a brother, Fred Shepherd of Beaver. Beav-er. Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted at the Beaver Ward Saturday Sat-urday at 1 p. m. Friends may call at the chapel in Beaver Saturday after 11 a. m. Burial Bur-ial will be in Beaver Cemetery. |
