Show Flag raising on Columbus Day. Editor Eeporter:-The pupils of the Presbyterian school in Manti, by well directed effort and the help of patrons ar.d friends, recently have secured a beautiful flag. A suitable pole, over sixty feet in height, was erected in line with the north wall of the church, just outside of the tree line, beside Main street. On the morning of Columbus Day, the teachers, pupils and friends, gathered gath-ered around the flag-pole at 9:30 o'clock, and Mr, Jacob Hess, the only veteran known to be in town, ran up "Old Glory" acoording to military rule, ending end-ing with three cheers from the crowd, after which the school saluted the flag, pledging fealty to it, and to that for which it stands. Theu the school and audience repa red to the church for the rendering of the program. pro-gram. The exercises were calculated to dedicate the flag to patriotic nses, as well as to honor the day. There - was not a break in any exercise, and yet there was no prompting. Each pupil was furnished with a Bag in hand, and with a very small one, to be kept as a memento. A vote of thanks to those who assisted in purchasing and erecting the flag, was proposed and unanimously passed by the school. In the afternoon the school marched to the Tabernacle in a body, and participated in the general program. Altogether the day and its exercises will long be remembered by the young citizens. G. V.
