Show B The Tribune Bolt Again. BB, Senator Kearns evidently thinks BBBJ. he knows wh.t he is about. flfl' Possibly lie does, but The BIBJi Ruru hi. i tA.N believes he is IK making a mistake. In bolting tho Bflflj Republican state ticket, The Tribune, K Mr. Kcaru's paper, can have but one flH Object In view, to force, if possible, B' his return to the Senate. The senior Bi Senator ovldently believes there is an Bli unduecomblnatlonagHlnsthim.andby B llls "K,lL on Smoot, against the chuich i iUul lllc stule ticket, he hopes to forco Hi that influence into a more favorable HB attitude. Mr. Kearns has plenty of fji money, a cei tain following and in his BBBJ disappointment and determination BE' may be able to kick up such a row as HB to accomplish his point, if indeed BBfls 'j there is a combination against him. BBflv It is said that Mr. Kearns is deter BflBf mined to rip Utali wide open, that flflj Goodwin Is to go back to The Trib- BflH une's editorial stair, that tho Smoot BBS case Is to be reopened with a vigor BflBf ' that has not characterized it hereto- HB fore, that this state Is to be subjected BBBb' to such an upheavol as will set all HBV. othcis in the shade, unless M r . BBBVi . ', Kearns Is given the assurance that he bBBi bVBBB flflsiflflflflflBflflflfl yy. L will have a square deal In the selection selec-tion of legislative candldatos. Whether Mr. Kearns and The Tribune can accomplish all this Is a matter of conjectuie, of course, but If 'tis true that the main stipulation of Mr. Kcarns's election four years ago was that lie should buy The Tribune and stop Its light against IhcMormon people, peo-ple, then it Is not unreasonable to suppose that The Tribune could at least become very obnoxious at this time if its owneis deemed It desirable. 0 ranting for the sake of argument that Mr. Kcains's paper can do all it Is now Intimated will bo done, could this not be done to better advantage after election than before? By making mak-ing the light bcrorc election The Tribune Trib-une endangers the State ticket, endangers en-dangers the election of a Republican congressman, and Injures the national ticket to which it claims to be loyal. And what does The Tribune and Mr, Kearns gain by this? Absolutely nothing but the contempt of the loyal Republicans of this state, No one loves or appreciates a bolter and by letting his personal grievance Jeopardize Jeopard-ize In even a small way the success of the Republican state and national ticket, Mr. Kearns drives from him those who would be his friends. The legislature will select. Mr. Kcarns's successor. Why docs not Mr. Kearns and The Tribune join In the tight to elect Republicans to that legislature, and then if lie Is still satisfied sat-isfied that there Is an undue combination combina-tion against him let him turn his batteries bat-teries loose. If there is an influence which can give Mr. Kearns today what he asks, then there is an influence influ-ence that can give him what he asks after election. Why ask it now. and being refused, promulgate a tight that makes him a despicable bolter and makes possible, if not probable, the frultlessncss of the endeavors of thousands of honest Republicans in the state of Utah. Senator Kcarns's persistency In this tight at the present time Is the mistake mis-take of his life. |
