Someof them are of opinon that there will bo "thunder a popping" when he attempts to lake his seat. We do not think that any thing very serious will occur. Of course the Ministerial Association Associa-tion will make its usual appeal to tho country'ln which It will point out the awful danger t hat thicatcns if a Mormon Mor-mon Is allowed a seat admldst the august au-gust Scnatois. Petitions will be pre-paicd pre-paicd in Salt Lake and sent to all of the Emlcaior,nnd V. M.C. A. Societies with lequests to piocurc signatures, and names will be sent in by the millions, mil-lions, tho Senate will bo told how many miles of them there are and how keenly every signer senses tne awful calamity about to fall on the nation If poor Siroot be glen a seat. The ildiculonsncss of the whole thing will be appaient enough to the Senators and after they have listened to a few rampant speeches on the menace that Moi monism is to the country, and piobably heard some testimony tes-timony of the awful oaths Smoot has taken against the government; they w ill conclude like sensible men that a belief in Mormonlsm docs not disqualify disqual-ify a man fiom exercising the rights of citizenship in our common country. And outside of a few disappointed of-Hce of-Hce seekers and a few ministers who have failed in trying to make converts fiom Mormonlsm and are Jealous of its growth, this decision will be approved by the country. |
