Show The Old Folks. The gathering of the old folks at the Tabernaclo grounds yesterday was probably as enjoyqble as anything of tho kind ever given In the city. Tho weather was as nearly perfect as could have been desired and hundreds of gray heads were present and participated partici-pated in the pleasures of the day. During Dur-ing the morning a program of speeches, music and recitations was enjoyed and In the afternoon there was more program and a dance on tho pavilion. At noon the old folks were seated at tables ladened with the best of everything every-thing that loving hands and culinary culi-nary ability could supply, and of courso they enjoyed It all. Theso gatherings should be encouraged and every support given them In the future, as it has been in the past. The old folks enjoy getting together and It Is only in this way that many of them meet their friends of bygone jcars who have grown gray and lies!-lato lies!-lato to go out frequently. The loving lov-ing hand clasps and hearty greetings of yesterday will bo cherished in the memory of many of those at the gathering and it is an unroitunatc fact sad to contemplate that many of these dear old souls shook hands for the last time. They are passing one by one, and oh how rapidly. It Is thlsone here, that one theie, and It Is always someone's loving father, mother, brothel or sister, and how we hate to have them go. Tins younger people cannot show too great consideration consid-eration for their elders nnd should provide as much pleasure as poisihic for them in their declining yeai-,, Theie is not a young person hi the city who would not have boon benefited bene-fited by a visit to the tabernacle grounds yesterday, If they had watched watch-ed the light tlaio up in faded eyes as hand giasped hand In warm gioeting. God bless the old people, our fatheis mothers and grandpaienls, nnd ma) their later years bo days of peace, plenty and happiness. |
