Show I 1agt 2A, Lakeside Ileyiov, December 22, 1980 County Rejects Fire Chief's Proposal to Update Building An $8,000 excess in the Davis '..FARMINGTON County Fire Departments budget for 1980 cannot be spent at this time for building improvements, the 7 Davis County Commission decided Thursday. I Brent Argyle, Davis County fire chief, appeared before the commission with the request for additional r office space to be built in the unfinished basement of 7 the fire station with the excess funds. He told the council that approximately $18,000 was in the budget at this time and it normally costs them around $10,000 a month to keep the station in operation. He said with one month left in the fiscal - year he would like to use the additional $8,000 to finish J,the basement. Commissioner Ernest Eberhard told Argyle the commission couldnt approve the request in view of the fact that they might not need that space if they sell the building. Eberhard was referring to the pending sale of the fire department to three south Davis cities, Woods , Cross, West Bountiful and Centerville. The Davis County 1981 budget reflects that the commission is only planning on funding the fire department through July of 1981. ' . Commissioner Morris Swapp told Argyle that if the mQney is not spent at this time it will remain in the budget and could be used later next year. We should wait and see what happens, he said. Ludene Gibbons, Davis County auditor, said the funds will be carried over as a surplus in the special services fund and will not be reflected in the 1981 budget. In discussion on the pending sale of the fire department, Commissioner Swapp said they have received letters from the cities and are preparing to -- , send a letter in return. The cities are requesting a three-yea- r coverage' period instead of the four-yea- r period the county is requesting as a time period for fire coverage as payment for the countys, investment in the building and equipment. Swapp said the county is looking at other alternatives at this time and is not ready to send the cities a letter telling them where they stand as yet Eberhard asked Argyle what he would estimate the purchase price of the fire equipment if it were bought new today. He said that after all the equipment is in good shape. Argyle told the commissioner that they currently have three pieces of equipment down and only two pieces of equipment are in operating condition and in good shape. Eberhard defended the county's position that they were selling the cities good equipment by saying were just handing them something with no capital investment on their part." He told the commissioners that the cities were going to have the chance to earn interest on the money they would be saving by not having to buy the equipment out right. I want to see those three cities get a good start, Id do anything to see they get it, Eberhard said. m toy SAMPO T.V. 12" black & white, instant sound, AC powered. Reg. $109.95 SUPER .? Wear-Eve- r .
