Show Ellen Olofson Is New Prexy Of Ladies Goli Assn. At the recent meeting of the Ladies Golf Association, officers offi-cers for the 19G8 season were chosen. Ellen Olofson was elected president with Lillian Hazel chosen as tournament chairman. chair-man. Because of her great efforts and ability as association associa-tion secretary, Kay Wilkensen was re-elected to serve once again in that capacity. Serving on the board of directors will be Jean Bunting, Bunt-ing, past president, and Flo Frankhauser, past tournament chairman. - . The election meeting was conducted by Mrs. Bunting, and plans for the Ladies Day activities were announced. Tuesday forenoons have been set aside: as Ladies Day on the Painted Hills Course. On that day, all lady golfers-good, golfers-good, bad,, potential, or indifferent indif-ferent are invited to come out and take part. Also, because most lady golfers are scared off when the word "tournament" is used, thinking they aren't good enough to play in such a thing, the Ladies Association would briefly like to explain what a Ladies Day Tourney really involves. Actually, a tourney held on Ladies Day is just a way of getting the lady golfers together to-gether to play golf and to cultivate cul-tivate new friendships. A typical ladies day tourney might be called a "blind bogey." bog-ey." In this tourney, prizes are awarded for various things, such as who had the most 10's recorded, or the shortest drive, or the highest score. Another tourney might be a "guess your score" one where you guess what you will shoot before you go out to play. Or how about a surprize sur-prize tourney? In this one you don't -know what kind of hale:w111 be waiting for you when you reach the green. You may find a hole two feet in diameter or three different differ-ent holes on a green, giving you the chance to put to any one you wish. Now, do you still think you're not "good enough" to play in these tourneys? Also, as an added incentive, local golf pro Brent Orchard announced that there will be free clinics given at 9 a. m. j every Tuesday and 5 p. m. I every Thursday during the month of April for all potential poten-tial and new lady golfers. Clubs will be furnished for thesa lessons at no cost to the ladies so now is the time to take advantage of this offer. of-fer. The Ladies Day Opening Social will be Tuesday, April 9. ; ; I |
