Show DEATH OF "BISHOP" K0SL0 WSKI. "Bishop" Anthony Koslowski. who in 1901 founded found-ed the "Independent" Catholic Church, died Monday Mon-day night, January 11. at St. Anthony's hospital. Chicago. Because of circumstances attending his death the police took charge of the body. The physician phy-sician who attended Koslowski during his illness refused to issue a certificate showing the cause of death. The autopsy developed that death resulted from natural causes. Koslowski in 1901 became disgruntled with the Catholic Church, of which he was a priest, and gathering about him Polish followers he organized a new church. Organizations were also formed in Omaha. Cleveland and other cities, and he made himself a bishop. For this he was excommunicated by the Pope. It develops that Koslowski recanted his apostasy before his death, and sent for a priest to whom he wished to make his confession. Last week, in one of the rare intervals of lucidity which intervened in his illness, he conveyed word through Dr. A. E. Malachowski, the physician most constantly in attendance at-tendance on him, to Rev. Francis Lange, that he wished to confess to him. Xo subsequent return to consciousness made possible his making his confession. |
