SWALBERG : ' ,rBe it resolved by the Good Government Party in Convention Conven-tion Assembled that the policy of the Good Government Party shall be for the conducting of the affairs of the City of Gunnison Gunni-son in a most conservative and business-like manner. It favors improvement in all branches but within the financial limits of the city, and will work to the end of promoting the best interests inter-ests throughout. "It will be the further policy to adhere to a strict curtailment of any extravagance in any promotion pro-motion of improvements. We are not bound by any clique or organization and will be in a position po-sition to meet fairly and squarely square-ly the problems of the administration adminis-tration and the public welfare in a conservative and true business-like maimer" Pledging itself fairly and squarely for the promotion of "the best interests inter-ests for Gunnison and the upbuilding of the Great Gunnison Valley, . the Good Government party at its convention con-vention held last Monday night put In a strong ticket of young and conservative con-servative business men. Harmony and broadmindedness pervaded the hall and the utmost conservatism was exercised in selecting a competent compe-tent corps to seek the offices of mayor, city recorder, treasurer, one four-year and three two-year coun-cilmen. coun-cilmen. Every candidate named is prominently identified with the upbuilding up-building of the city, are among the taxpayers who support the city and all have pledged themselves to the policy of advancement, but within the financial limits of the city. The primary was called to order by Chairman L. H. Childs. After giving briefly the history and policy of the Good Government party, and owing to the fact that he had held office for a long time and not for the lack of interest in the party, that he would take his coat off and work with the same energy as in the past, Mr. Childs tendered his resignation as chairman. Chris Madsen was elected to fill the vacancy made by Mr. Childs' resignation, and N. L. Hermansen was selected as vice-chairman. vice-chairman. C. M. Edwards was the unanimous choice of the convention for secretary secre-tary of the Good Government party and after reading the call, the work of selecting a ticket was begun. With care and deliberation a splendid ticket was chosen which will go before the voters at the coming com-ing November- election. J. W. Jones, the choice of the party for mayor of Gunnison, needs no introduction. He has been identified with the Gunnison Gunni-son Valley bank for nearly ten years past and since January 1916 he h?.s been the cashier of the bank. His career as cashier of the bank has clearly demonstrated his ability as an executive officer as during that period the volume of business has been increased more than three-fold. For the office of City Recorder, the present incumbent, C. H. Childs. was nominated. Mr. Childs has proven himself an efficient, officer during his term and has given universal uni-versal satisfaction. Mrs. Helen Hofheins. chairman of the Red Cross society of Gunnison, was named for the office of treasurer. Archie Sorenson, one of the leading lead-ing young business men and prominent promi-nent in civic affairs, was the choice of the convention for the 4-year term of councilman. Mr. Sorenson will have as his associates on the ticket for the two-year terms Ira Overfelt, agent for the Rio Grande railroad company at Gunnison; Martin Peterson, Peter-son, merchant and one of the heavy taxpayers of the city and county; R C. Swalberg, property owner and leading veterinarian of Sanpete county. At the conclusion of the nominations nomina-tions Chairman Madsen then named the following nominating committee: O. B. Berglund, C. M. Madsen and C. M. Edwards. The following chairmen chair-men were chosen for the severa' campaign committees: A. Madsen. Charles Rasmussen. J. A. Tuft, Nie! Sorenson and John W.
