Show Lorin W. Griffin Buried at Escalante Lorin W. Griffin. 74, Escalante, died March 23 in the Panguitch hospital of natural causes. He was born Oct. 23, 1895 In Escalante to Charles Emerson and Sarah Elizabeth Jarvis Griffin. He married Bessie Naomi Baxter, July 6, 1918, Everett. Wash.; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He attended Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City and played on the all-state basketball team. He was a coach for the M-Men basketball teams: veteran of World War I, and was the Farm Training Program director under the GI bill. Survivors: widow; son, daughters, Mrs. Haynes (Iola) Woolsey, Mrs. :Frank (Kath-ryn) Coleman, all Escalante; SSgt. Alvln, Fort Ieonard Wood, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; brother. Lorenzo, Escalante. Funeral sen-ices were held April 1 in the Escalante North ward chapel. Family prayer. Ray Griffin : prelude and post-lude music, Areola Gates; Speakers were Dale Marsh, E. D. Haws, Doyle Cottam and Bishop Vernon Spencer. Music Included selections by a mixed chorus; vocal duet, Usher Spencer and Delane Griffin, and musical reading by Dena Alvey. Benediction, Morris Shurtz. The grave was dedicat ed by Roland Porter; burial was in the Escalante Cemetery under direction of Neal S. Magleby and Sons Mortuary. Military rites were under the direction of Vergean Porter. |
