ADVERTISE IN THE INSIDER IT WORKS! Call 435-676-2621 to place ads It Makes Seme. By Veda Hale I was visiting with an old friend who told me about a family trip to Zion where they happened on something she called a "Drumming". Seems people were invited to bring drums or some kind of rhythm instrument and come together to "keep a rhythm " 1 asked if there was a leader. She said she thought so. But before she really knew what was going on, she was handed a rattle and found herself involved. In a short time she was feeling great and like she was an insider in their group. "There was even a few women who started to dance and I almost joined them" she laughed. I thought about this situation, and it did sound fun. I think we don't participate enough in proven world traditions that break down barriers. I even found myself starting to wish I could use something to loosen my sometimes up-tight family. I remembered being in a situation in Hawaii when a family had an all nighter with music and hula. F11 never forget how, after the night got going, the young people insisted it was "Auntie" May's turn to hula. 350 pound Aunti May? 75 years old? No way! Was I ever wrong. When she finally got on her feet and started to hula, I was aniazed to see liquid grace happen before my eyes. It was beautiful. And the bridge was crossed between the old and the young. The whole night of participation with this group was wonderful. I wondered if "drumming" was sort of like this. Well, I looked up "Drumming" and sure enough it is a happening in certain areas of our society. There seems to be many helps available. One is at www. Drumming-about-you.com. I learned it is therapy for the old in nurs- ing homes, for autistic children, troubled teens and other groups with issues that are hard to treat. So for the what-it's-worth department. . . . Get something rhythmic going around a camp fire this summer and see if a new togetherness doesn't happen. It makes sense. Now back to the nitty-gritty stuff. How about another toilet-cleaning hint? Besides Grandma's denture-cleaning tablets or pumise stones to wear away that hard water ring, you could use two Alk-Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush, and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action works to loosen hard water ring. If you don't have anything else, pour about a quart of vinegar in the tolet, let sit all night and that will usually take the ring out without much scrubbing. More Alka-Seltzer tricks: Polish jewelry—©rop two Alka-Seltzer tablest into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes. Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alk-Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour or longer. Remove bumed-on grease from a pot. Fill with water and six Alka-Seltzer tablets, let soak for an hour, then scrub. Unclog a drain. Drop three Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of white vinegar. Wait a few minutes and flush with hot water. Readers, tNs is your column. Send hints to Veda Hale, Box 956, Panguitch, Utah 84759. Vedahale Qhotmail.com.
