Show AGED MAN FOUND F PITIABLE CONDITION IS POT OFF TRAIN AT THiS PLAGE': RELATIVES ARE NOTIFIED " A most pathetic case of destitution and helpless old age came to the notice of the local authorities this week. At three o'clock a. m.. in the intense cold of the night, an aged man was assisted off the northbound train at Milford. He had been placed aboard the train at Nada with a ticket to Milford. He had a few dollars in his pocket.. and it was learned that he was hoping to get to Spokane, Washington. Those who started the old man on his journey are said to have been advised by some man at Cedar City that the railroad would transport the old man to Washington and collect for his fare from relatives at the other end of the long ride. Some Nada homesteaders happening to be on the same train took him to the Atkin Hotel and he was given a room. The old man did not remove his overcoat or other clothing, and was found in the room helpless nearly 2 4 hours later. He was in a most deplorable condition of filth and has been delirious at times even since. The case was called to the attention of County Attorney Russell E. Parsons, who, acting in the part of a Good Samaritan, ra- ther than in his official capacity, took an interest in the helpless old man. Failing to find anyone whom he could even hire to take charge of the case. Mr. Parsons pulled off his coat and with the assistance of Harry King striped the aged invalid and bathed him, purchased clean garments for him and left him as comfortable as could he under the circumstances. The next move made was to try to locate the re- latives of the unfortunate. The Nada ranchers say that the old man is known as Dr. McChesney and that he has been living there with a distant relative. He has a daughter at Lund, it is said, and word has been sent to her of her old father's plight. He is 9 5 years old. Mrs. Butler of Lund, daughter of Dr. McChesney came to Milford yesterday upon receiving word of the sad condition of her father of which she was entirely ignorant until word was received from the county attorney. She is grief-stricken and doing everything possible now for the comfort of her father, the News is informed. |
